Mayor Giuliani threatened to cut any funding to the Brooklyn Museum because of their "Sensation" exhibit that some people thought was very offensive. It had pieces that pushed the boundaries of art and was very "sensational". For example there was a frozen bust of an artist that was made entirely of his own blood that he poured into a mold.

What offended a lot of people the most was a depiction of the virgin mary with porn clippings shaped like butterflies and actual cow dung on the canvas.

A graffiti/visual artist named Stephen "espo" Powers hung up a giant picture of Guiliani and invited people to throw cow dung at it. The police (most likely at Guilianis direction) raided his house and arrested him for a pair of brass knuckles he had as decoration.
