I'm of the opinion that--and Vickers has basically confirmed--that he's timing his drops to coincide with the Killstream. I actually think it's a smart strategy. But the fact is that everything he is doing is driving Faith further away from her family and deeper into a life of degeneracy, whether with the Gunt or someone else. I disagree. I think he is just dead set on beating ralph at his own game. He is stepping into a world that ralph thinks he is the king of and saying "look here fucker, I am older than you (slightly), smarter than you, wiser than you, wealthyer than you, and just plain better than you. So much better than you that im going to waltz right on into your world and make a fool of you." I also think the message he is intending to send to Faith is a fathers promice. "I will walk into the bowels of hell to save you if thats what it takes." He is also showing her that he is willing to accept her for who she is, that he might be a boomer but he can understand 'her world', at least enough to build some common ground. Fathers do some wierd shit for their family, this is just a modern version of trying to copy your kids clothing style to embarass them, but also to use it as a bonding and teaching moment.

I don't see why these can't both be correct. He could be driving Faith deeper into the gunt arms of yet another deadbeat boyfriend, but he seems to have been a little more passive in dealing with Faith & look where that got him. I don't know if this is quite the way to get a wayward child back, but desperate parents do a lot of weird shit for their kids. It's kind of touching in a strange way.
