Commies always require a Ministry of Propaganda. State-run ministries have fallen out of fashion over the last 40 years, so they are perfectly happy to let corporations fill that role, as long as they follow the Party line.
Putting on my Deep Thoughts hat: one could easily illustrate how cancel culture looks like a bottom-up attempt to replicate all the usual commie/Soviet government institutions, without first capturing the government. (They literally tried exactly that in CHAZ with the daily People's Meeting.)
Big Tech plays the role of the censors, and enable mobs who act as localized People's Committees. Social media "armies" replicate government force, especially in its new BLM mob-rule form. 90s and 00s style activism was already pressuring companies to act in a more "socially conscious" way.
The demands about diversity quotas, fair share of taxes, reduced carbon footprint, and "community investment" are intended to measure and modify corporations' economic output. Combine that with the power of boycotts and cancel culture, and you get a level of economic control. It's less precise than centralized Soviet planning, but then nobody cares about 15% increases vs a 19% goal; they care about the "real" outcomes and distribution of the economic activity.
Of course, in this setup, that makes the driving force angst and consumerism, instead of true revolutionary zeal. If Bernie became President, cancelled all student debts and handed out free healthcare, the revolution would end. Those have been pain points for decades; not oppression, but real, honest pain points for the middle and working classes. The failure of politics to fix it is what's driving the lurch into extreme options. (Plus some other aspects, but IMO economic issues was the opening wedge that got this mini socialist tantrum rolling, and solving those problems kills a lot of the drive.)

I really want a reputable polling agency to ask 1000 Americans how many unarmed black men get killed by police a year just to see how stupid the average person is. I got a feeling it will be some absurd number like 1-10 thousand. For coronavirus, Americans think it has killed 9 percent of the population (225 times the actual numbers).
