Nah the prosecutors just try to over-charge him with 1st degree murder, drag things out a couple years and ruin his family financially with the defense, and hope that people have calmed down enough that this doesn't spark the type of riots that'd happen if they didn't charge him.

On the subject of prosecutors and self-defense charges, I'll keep the power-leveling to a bare minimum and just say that I have been privy to a conversation between two prosecutors that went very closely to this:

"Was it justified?"

"It was straight out of an NRA commercial. In his own home, back against the wall, the guy was advancing on him, he ordered the guy to stop, he didn't, two shots to center mass."

I don't recall hearing of any charges being brought.

A 17 year old goes out in protests armed, a couple agitators provoked him, and he retaliated with his gun. And even tries to turn himself in. All of this on camera, meanwhile he's the aggressor. The white sheep. Okay.

What is all of this I'm hearing about "boogaloo" or shit? Why is he the bad guy when I've seen several people burn, loot, harass, threaten, hurt people with immunity from the media?

I don't understand anything anymore. What makes these people think messing with somebody WITH guns will end smoothly? They need to learn the hard way that people are sick and tired of this chaos.

I have no sympathy for any of them. Many people are affected by their actions ON TOP of Covid with no recourse.

To be fair, the cops probably haven't done much investigation beyond initial witness statements which were probably all full of shit. They likely haven't even seen the videos yet, as they'd been preoccupied with all the other shit going on. I don't think he's actually been charged yet, just a warrant for arrest for suspicion of murder (i.e. they have probably cause to arrest him while investigating to determine if there's a case and to determine actual charges if they think there is).

Whether the charges get dropped due to there being no case, or the DA is a progressive or democrat and goes for broke remains to be seen.

I'm hoping he has legal insurance. Most of the libertarians I know have something that ensures they get a real lawyer if they're ever involved in a shootout.

Nah, 'dumb' would be a founding stock American walking around a riot that's being filmed from hundreds of angles, including likely from overhead by hostile police and ANG, and thinking that he had the right to defend himself if attacked just because that's what the law books still officially say.

I'd encourage him to hold out while things play out. Dems have been playing some very dangerous games and I suspect he has more supporters than are apparent. I'd give money to see him get a fair trial.
