After reading the Wikipedia and around 10 different propaganda articles, I still can't find the crime he was on probation for before he was arrested over the backpack. A backpack that was stolen from a Mexican immigrant that contained a camera, $700, a credit card, and an iPod Touch. This doesn't really even capture the half of it. Imagine the police, prison, and public transit savings. Imagine urban and suburbanites being able to actually send kids to public school for a decent education (at least scholastically) like you can in many rural areas. Imagine being able to walk around an inner city at night with no real prospect of crime or intimidation. Imagine how much more smoothly the healthcare system would run if people didn't use the ER as their GP. Imagine being able to take the bus. Imagine how much crime disrupts the local economy and real estate markets. Imagine the otherwise totally unnecessary laws that could be done away with...
I'm not a "kick em all out" kind of guy, but it's more than obvious that as a whole, these communities are imposing a great deal of strain on the system, and a sane society would address the issue head on.
