At the risk of double posting, I have some questions about America balkanizing. Mostly how it would actually split up. Most cases I've seen of balkanization were massive empires falling apart and the old ethnic factions that were absorbed going back to their old borders. The Soviet Union, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire all balkanized because they had dozens of ethnicities under one banner concentrated in their own geographic regions. I guess I just don't see America balkanizing the same way because ethnicities are more spread out, and cities or neighborhoods acting the way they are now doesn't sound like it to me, it just sounds like a doomer fantasy at best. Just some explanation of what ethnicities would set up their Balkan state and where would be nice.

Highly doubt it's going to happen but you would see a lot of movement of displaced persons. Hispanics would push blacks out of most cities with a large hispanic population, as their gangs have been beating the shit out of the black gangs since the 80s and they hate each other real bad. whites and Asians wouldnt let blacks get into the suburbs, youd have hispanic and white/Asian ethnic areas and many areas with all three, and blacks would have nowhere they could hold except some cities without a large pre-breakdown hispanic population, and rural black majority areas in the south. What's funny is the racist south would have the most diverse areas in the aftermath, and function with them pretty well, but any northern or western aka left wing city with a large non black population would see massive paroxysms of race violence until the blacks got ethnically cleansed from them by the whites, hispanics, and Asians.

I am goong guess its going happen along geographic lines. Such as rivers and mountains. Look at places where it would be very difficult to travess during a post technological collapse and you'll have your answer.

My prediction is the great lakes will become a very desirable place due to its strategic location. The great lakes feeding into the Atlantic and Mississippi river. Which would allow to long distance trader and projection of power. Plus its the biggest source of fresh water
