Unrelated to that article, I honestly feel like there are a lot of RINOs now, myself included.

I didn't become a Republican, but I feel like I woke up one morning and was a Republican because the Democrats shifted so far left and I got LEFT behind (pun intended), and now even though I hold the same views I'm a Republican now.

Barr's doing the smart thing, if he burns it root and branch he is too likely to burn a lot of the good within the organization too. Better to come at it slow and cautious, build a steady case, then act like a scalpel.

A bit more precise thoughts: Burn too much of the FBI and it stops being useful as an organization. Which, during a time of political upheaval and two major nations working counter to our interests, would be bad. Barr can't just go scorched earth and rebuild like many people would want. So, his only remaining option is neuter the conspiracy, begin carving out the rot, and remove the worst elements. From there, it'll take multiple administrations of oversight and cutting to bring the FBI back into good standing.

Part of Barr's problem is that in order to prevent the FBI being defanged, he has to ensure that the rank and file which fills the upper slots that would be vacated by any action he takes aren't just more of the same. There's no real "Winning play" here, only damage mitigation.
