Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Damn. If I were Australian, I'd invest in a VPN and go full Anon. Did Australia not get the memo that even the WHO doesn't think total lockdowns are a good way to handle the virus at this point?

Experts only count as experts if they support the foreverquarantine.

Someday, we will get a vaccine that will cure death. Until then, the entire world must pause.

People feel out of control with Trump in office. Even though he hasn't really done anything, they are using the corona virus to project their need for control.

I suspect the masks will last for at least a decade. Because flu season comes every year and people will encourage force you to wear one to "Save just one life." The whole thing is virtue signaling and finger waving gone amuck. When did tattle tale behavior become favored in this world? What happened to snitches get stitches? Until we have real studies proving the negative effects of masks, which will probably have a hard time being conducted just like all the trans research, Trump fear is going create to worse consequences then his bloated, bleeting ass could have ever caused (hell, it already has.)

Has anyone tried to get a doctors note exempting themselves from the masks? I'm planning on going to ask for one soon. They cause me so much anxiety and I can't concentrate on anything with them on. All I can think about is the sheer horror of all of this. It's traumatizing.

Wait how are the mask's Drumpf's fault? The mask mandates are being enforced almost entirely by state level Democrats.

More madness in Melbourne. Reminder: this is the new normal that will soon be implemented world-wide.

Hope those extra 3 months of life for 80 year olds was worth it. This will never go away, and you can now reliably expect to get scooped up by police for offering support for groups that are anti-government-positions.
Jesus, what the hell did this poor bastard do to deserve this shit?

I don't think I can buy the "Wuflu was a random event and everybody kinda just stumbled into a power trip" angle to this anymore. There's been far too much aggressive coordination worldwide to get just about every major population subjugated to an utter dystopian nightmare over a virus that at any other time would've barely been given a second glance once its properties were known.

Between the constant lies and misinformation, complete disregard for proven treatments, flagellant inflation of case numbers, rampant "new normal" brainwashing with encouragement to snitch and go full Karen on your fellow man, more and more mandates and laws about what you can and can't do and a never-ending avalanche of excuses to perpetually extend lockdowns, this was all a plot from the goddamn beginning and nothing will convince me otherwise. This was an operation to get the world to bow to a new order of fear and control, and it fucking worked.

The sudden coordinated lockdowns are what tipped it off for me. Instinctually, it just felt...off. The question is will people put up with this for months or years longer? A mandate of the vaccine is what scares me most now, though I think they will use businesses and events to enact it, so the government can say they did not force it, but it will be required to do anything.

Could someone clue me in as to why they are suddenly arresting people in Australia at least in Victoria? first a pregnant lady now another fellow it's insane.
They've gone full virus-regime. For whatever reason, Victoria was chosen as the ginuea pig. This will be the basic thing going forward: opposition to goverment decrees will be met with cops coming to your house and arresting you in the early morning hours.

Morons used to claim that this sort of thing was just conspiracy BS. Well, what now? There's zero chance that this sort of thing will get better, because why would it?

Many government decisions these days feel like trying out how far they can go. How far can they push propaganda, how far can they push policies based on increasingly flimsy justifications, how far can they push people in general.
The question is just... Why? It doesn't really make sense. Just to fuck with people? I always found it hard to believe that some people in power just want to exert power for its own sake. Humiliate the populace and so on, seems a bit far-fetched.
So what's the reason? Shifting blame for the economic depression that was coming and testing out how much they can control narratives and suppress unrest? Have an excuse for revamping economies, introducing UBI, and going for increased deindustrialisation and stuff?
But the virus also works against certain things that were lauded before. Like further compression of urban centers, giving up private property and basically privacy by sharing living spaces, using public transport and so on.
Personally, I think it's more down to stupidity than malice.
In the very beginning, knowledge about the virus was minimal. Governments were saying that it's all nothing, and the MSM followed on that narrative. Increased reporting from Wuhan painted a different picture, and suddenly the governments and subsequently the MSM changed their tunes when the experts changed their opinions on the virus. Suddenly it was the apocalypse and there had to be lockdowns and everything.
However, then the virus just kinda fizzed out. It was pretty bad in some areas, but realistically it was barely bigger than a really bad flu season, which is to be expected for a new virus.
The governments couldn't have known that the virus would fizz out, and the experts had to be as apocalyptic as possible because otherwise, if the virus would have been worse than their predictions, it would have been their asses to blame.
Now the problem is that governments and media are incapable of admitting fault. They're always right, whatever they say. So now they have the narrative of the apocalypse virus that they have to follow. I don't think they're lying about it, I think they really believe it. During the course of this year I've come to the conclusion that a signficant amount of people are practically insane, i.e. their subjective reality differs heavily from objective reality. There's always slight differences between subjective and objective world of course, but I suspect that a growing amount of people suffer from total distortion of reality, similar to Orwell's Doublethink. They absolutely do see the amount of fingers O'Brien is telling them he's holding up, not the amount of fingers he's physically holding up.
Anyway, so the governments are now trapped in their own narrative and can't get out of it anymore. What feels like malice and lust for power is just them winging it, kinda helplessly because they don't really know what to do. And they fear what's coming for them if the crisis is actually solved. Economies are wrecked, and they really need the virus to be super apocalyptic to make it clear that they did everything correctly.

It's going to be over a decade before people start admitting "we fucked up", and by then the politicians responsible will either be retired or have convenient excuses like "I did the best I could for the sake of my constituents/city/state using the information available to me at the time". It's like how for about a decade many Republicans (let alone centrists and Democrats) will criticize the Iraq War and the decision to vote for it and George W. Bush is widely reviled by everyone on either side who isn't trying to say "well he's better than Trump!" Shit, you'll even find a lot of people the past few years saying that Saddam Hussein was just a garden-variety asshole and not Hitler 2.0 like he was portrayed as back in 2003. But it sure took a while for people to come to a conclusion that was more or less obvious back then that no, we shouldn't invade a random shithole country and then have a confused mess of plans for what we'll do there. Must've looked at the end result (shithole becomes an even worse shithole) and the 2 trillion dollar pricetag.

People said Chinavirus was this generation's 9/11. No, it's this generation's War on Terror. A bunch of idiots went into a situation motivated solely by the idea of "I need to do everything I can to look tough on this situation to get re-elected", shut everything down, and never had a plan to get things started again. All the while the constant narratives of fear took hold in the populace and in the politicians a personal fear took hold they weren't doing enough or some other politician would look better handling this, so they had to act harder and start moving the goalposts. They have no plan or metrics on how to ease things up and restore normalcy anymore than the neocons had a plan to get us out of Iraq or Afghanistan. "Uh, we'll be out when we have democracy and the terrorists are defeated!" "Well how are we going to get there?" "Uh, well..." And of course you must give up every single freedom or else "you're with the terrorists".

The real pandemic isn't COVID-19, the real pandemic is fear. And scared people can be convinced of anything. When it's over and the damage has been done, we'll come to our senses as the fear wears off, look at the trillions upon trillions of dollars spent to buy some old/fat people a few more months, and start asking "was this really worth it?" I'd like to think it would discredit the MSM/left for a while like the WoT did to the right, but the last time anyone gave a fuck about that was almost a decade ago so no one will care about this in 10-15 years.

I used to live in Melbourne and I still have friends there so I think I can give you the short version.

Melbourne is part of the state of Victoria. The Victorian government declared a state of emergency in March as a response to Covid-19. It's a law that allows them to suspend all constitutional rights on the grounds that an urgent and overwhelming threat to public health exists. They also declared a state of disaster (usually reserved for wild fires and floods). When these laws were first drawn up it was envisioned that the declarations would only last for a few days, to allow for things like mandatory quarantining of the sick and to move people to safety. They're now six months in and the government asked for a 1 year extension of the state of emergency, as it was about to run out, with the Parliament giving them another six months (with an automatic rollover if the coof is still around March next year).

In Melbourne, right now, the people are under a strict curfew that starts at 8PM. The cops have set up roadblocks around the city and you require special permits to travel 5km from your home. You must produce your papers when asked. Folks have to stay inside 23 hours a day, they're allowed out for 1 hours exercise (just like a Federal pen). Face masks are of course mandatory at all times, even when outside. The cops can issue spot fines for infringements of up to $20,000. Anyone who complains on social media is being closely monitored and the police have made it clear they'll be paying visits to people who get too mouthy about the lockdown. All businesses, except essential services are closed (and pretty much have been since March). All schools and universities are closed. This hard lockdown started 4 weeks ago as the government lost control of it's quarantine facilities, having staffed them with immigrant day workers (I shit you not).

The guy in the video is an anti-lockdown activist. His crime was to go on facebook and urge people to attend a protest against the curfews and home confinements and rise in suicide due to the economic depression (the Victorian economy has all but collapsed). His crime is 'incitement' which means whatever the cops and politicians want it to mean. Basically if you talk to others about how shitty things are you're risking 6 months in prison. He was also slapped with 'possession of illegal weapons' for owning some movie prop swords, because the police are cunts and he was mouthing off to them.

Anyway the Victorian government have recently stated that the lockdown will go on until Christmas. There's less than a hundred cases a day in Melbourne, 90% of the deaths have happened in nursing homes, almost all of the positive cases are being caught in the state run hospitals and most of the rural parts of the state have no, as in zero, cases of Covid but you guessed it they're in lockdown as well. The pregnant woman who was handcuffed? She lives in Ballarat, a small town 100 miles north of Melbourne that also has no cases of Covid. She was arrested for 'putting lives at risk' for organizing a public gathering which could spread the virus, in a town that doesn't have any virus.

If the idea of an advanced western democracy treating it's own population like this sounds kind of creepy and Orwellian, well you'd be right. The Victorian government is run by leftist SJWs, so of course they're telling everyone that this will go on until there's a vaccine, which might be never. Welcome to the future.

That shouldn't be hard to believe. In every other field of human endeavor, people push forward into new frontiers, set records, or simply enjoy mastery of what they do. The exercise of power is no different.

In principle it's fine, but in the current situation it seems rather dangerous. They are not an authoritarian regime yet, and they barely have the people behind them. Trying to test out how far they can go NOW seems like it could backfire quite quickly and severely for them.
Like, the previous pushes for power over the individual were trying to ban personal transport, and the whole live in a pod, eat the bugs. All that was now kinda fucked over by the Holocoof, and it's gonna be a bit hard to explain to people that they have to live in compressed urban centers with zero privacy when they just hammered into our heads that we all need to distance from each other.
Maybe this is the alternative plan. In those pod-communities with ever-changing occupants and preferably no walls, just bunk beds, you can't form deep, trusting friendships and you have no privacy and must always expet that a dangerhair snitch will be around to report you. But most people really don't like the idea of cramped pod-communities and all that shit, so now the idea to keep people from getting too close and exchange deep thoughts and ideas (which is doubleplusungood) is to enforce distancing.
Man, 2020 is gonna be an inspiration for so many different dystopian novels. I have like three different dystopian settings and plot outlines already based on all the potential conspiracy theories circulating. If I had lost my job during the Holocoof, I'd probably have written a full novel by now.

People are always trying to get Christians to wear masks by using the line in the bible about loving your neighbor. But I think if you really love your neighbors you should be fine if they choose to live there lives differently from yours.

Some branches of American Christianity are so warped and progressivized they would let modern Romans feed them to proverbial lions because some atheist smuggly said "wat wuld jeezus do? hrrrmmmmm???"
