what are your specs?

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
Just built in June.

Ryzen 3600x (wanted just a normal 3600 but I got the x version in part of a bundle, figured what the hell.)
16 gb 3200 RAM
Gtx 1650 (used, a stopgap till the 3000 series hit)
2 m.2 1tb ssd

I gave myself a bit of a rebuild this summer. Current setup:

- Ryzen 3700X
- Asrock B550M/ITX motherboard
- Kolink Rocket ultra small form factor case
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 3200MHz
- GTX 1080 Ti (which will shortly be put out to pasture as I'm gonna grab an RTX 3080 pretty sharpish)
- 2 TB M.2 SSD
- LG 27 inch 4K monitor
- Harman Kardon Soundsticks II speakers
- Shitty Chinese USB desk fan because it's been a bit warm over here recently.

The Kolink Rocket is a lovely case, incidentally, but an absolute bastard to build in. I used to think that Silverstone's SFF puzzle boxes were fiddly, they have nothing on this.

not all bad since i build it back in 2011. replaced the graphic card. just wished i bought a new SSD instead of a harddrive (beacuse my old one died and i could not install the new windows on my old SSD) since the speed i got was nice for game load times.

I ran an i5 2400/2500 until relatively recently, it worked and still works perfectly fine but I got too fat for my computing pants, I started having those brief moments where I tilt my head back and look at the ceiling because it's that [thing] again, that small performance annoyance that will start to seriously chafe eventually. That's a good reason to upgrade.

I had an i5-2400 back in 2012. Paired with a Radeon HD 7850 and 8 GB cheap DDR3 memory. Was okay for playing in 1080p. Nice little system. Not too expensive either.

Thing is, with every upgrade I go further and further into the high end. It's only my resolute insistence on being SFF that prevents me from getting an RTX 3090 when it arrives. That, and I really don't want to spend £1,400 on a graphics card when the less than half as expensive RTX 3080 will most likely max everything in 4K for the foreseeable future.

I think the RTX 3090 is aimed that those crazy people who want to play at 8K. Which really is the realm of diminishing returns unless you're doing it on a huge screen (I looked, an 8K 75 inch television costs six grand or more) or you've got a cinema style setup with a projector, in which case you're lucky to get change from twenty long ones. It would be wasted on my lil' 27 inch 4K screen.

Desktop (custom build):
- AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Processor @ 3.85 GHz (OC)
- 16GB DDR4 Ram @ 2400MHz
- MSI B450 TOMAHAWK Motherboard
- 512GB ADATA SU800 SATA III SSD with Windows 10 Pro (temporarily)
- 3TB Hitachi SATA II HDD (file backup and game storage)
- AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB GPU
- MSI Optix G24C 144Hz Monitor
- Redragon K551 Mechanical Keyboard
- Logitech G602 Wireless Mouse

Desktop (self build)
Intel i5-7600 @ 3.7GHz
16GB Corsair LPX DDR4 RAM
Asus Z270-A Mobo
2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB NVMe in RAID 0
2x WD Black 4TB 3.5" HDD
1X WD Black 3TB 3.5" HDD
MSI RX580 8GB Armor Edition
Corsair CX750 PSU
Win 10 Pro
Samsung 32" Curved 1080p monitor (main)
Samsung 9" Syncmaster panel (secondary/decorative slideshow)

It's still decent but a bit long in the tooth, now; probably build a Ryzen/RTX-based rig after Christmas, I reckon.

Custom built a loong time ago. I haven't found the need to upgrade since I mostly just program and draw these days, but maybe soon. It was good for it's time though, when I would actually game with it.

Is it actually 2400 ram or is it just running at that? Have you checked out the XMP setting in the bios? You can probably pick up 2x8GB of DDR4 3200 for 50-60 bucks/eurocoins now and it would be a nice upgrade.

you could have an extra 250 GB with practically no performance loss.
I'd never done a raid array myself, so I wanted to try it... To be fair, I probably will switch it, although it's not like I'm hurting for storage. I should just build a NAS, I guess.
