Do you want the government to decide who gets to be press and who isn't?

Because the left already deplatforms any press outlet that gets too uppity. Now imagine that only with Obama deciding which ones get legal protections and which don't.
The answer is simple: don't give press special rights.

First: Thanks!

Second: Everything is there except the last chapter. It builds up to the exciting conclusion, but then there's no exciting conclusion. We never learn what if anything they found when they executed the search warrant.
That'll... probably... come out. The shooting was less than 24 hours ago. Fortunately the investigation isn't being conducted by any Portland authorities, because you know they'd try to bury shit that makes antifa look bad.

Press doesn't have special rights as it is, press credentials traditionally gave press some extra leeway in terms of being at riots and such "Oh you're press sorry bout the arrest" if they got caught up in it (not much a camera crew could do back in the days of large and heavy AF cameras), but with Antifa trying to exploit that historical professional curiosity might be dead in the next few years.

They don't really have special rights. If you're a random person standing on the sidelines watching the cops stomp some rioters, you should be safe. If the cops say "this area is closed to everyone", then you, the press, and the rioters are all required to leave.

However, if you're an innocent random bystander while all this is going on, the cops could claim you're part of the mob and sweep you up too. Ideally, that shouldn't happen, but it sometimes does when cops get angry, or overstep their authority, or the bystander starts shouting and kind-of gets involved.

The point of press markings is to call out that you are not part of the crowd, and the cops have no reason to treat you like you are. But you still have to not act as if you are part of the mob.

Quite a lot of the fake "Press" at these riots do take part, such as Arex Johnson in Portland, who does get arrested, multiple times. But it's hard for the cops to tell the difference in the dark with imperfect observation of who is doing what.

I'm all for legitimate standing-on-sidelines recorders being left alone, but I think the cops should take a harder stance on the borderline cases. They seem to be trying; when ImHiram gets up in the cop's face at the front line, they'll spray him even though he has Press markings. And they'll shove anyone who doesn't get on the sidewalk when they say to.

Ain't it a little bit late for that shit, Teddy?

All of a sudden you're all about accountability after they almost burned down your condo as well as neighboring businesses? You've got a whole lot of really shitty, annoying chickens coming home to roost and I'm glad.
You have "tacitly" approved of every act of arson, vandalism, assault and murder that occurred in your city. What the fuck did you think was gonna happen?

Turns out when you let a bunch of meth-heads, idiots, 'revolutionary' larpers and felons run roughshod over your fucking city with no consequences to be had for their foolish conduct and poor, anti-social behavior, eventually people start fucking dying.
Who could've seen that coming?

Found this poking around some archives I had, this is a response to a response to a tweet by Kamala in support of making "lynching" a federal hate crime. So this guy is supporting what Kamala is suggesting and specifically replying to the obvious counterpoint: "murder is already illegal".

I had never really understood the obsession with criminalizing lynching specifically decades after it stopped being and thing, outside of gay ideological wins that mean nothing but energize the footsoldiers.

This guy had a take that is potentially explanatory and terrifying given what these people think constitutes a "hate crime".

So, commit hate crime, get land and other property civil asset forfeitured appears to be the scenario he's jerking it to.

I did some googling, but wasn't able to find a good answer to whether this is at all true as the law is currently implemented. That said, this may explain some of the obsession people on the left have with making things hate crimes.

If anyone has any insight to whether this guy is full of shit or not I'd appreciate it, google was being a cruel mistress when I tried looking into this as there's a lot of law dealing with forfeiture which muddies things.

I see ANTIFA is calling for the cops to be doxxed to RISEUP.net. The US (and Canada) need to firewall this site. It is where ALL of their organising is done.
Do you have sources for that request? I'd like to do some er, research.

First: Thanks!

Check out the date on the search warrant. They probably tossed his house last night or this morning. We will hear about it soon.

Because there is no legal standard for "press" in the US (for good reason).
Antifa already did the "we will make our own credentials" then cry when police don't "respect them" as we are the first in line to enter the Federal Courthouse barriers.

The best way to not get arrested by the police as a jouranlist is to 1) Not break the law 2) Not embed your self with the protesters rioters, 3) obey all lawful orders issued by the police.

More importantly, recognize there's no magic "I'm press so you can't arrest me" exemption to the 1st amendment -- or for rioting. Press have been arrested time and time again throughout the history of the US, it's just that now that Antifa is using "press" to try and disrupt police tactics that they suddenly expect them to be made immune to police action.

Police can and should be arresting the press and the NLG fags whenever appropriate.

Exactly.

Interesting development, especially if it proves effective. The President has issued an order banning "critical race theory" indoctrination in the Executive Branch.

Oh, wow, they actually got him to do it. There are some Marxists in Academia who are probably shitting themselves in impotent rage right now.

i can only hope that this isn't too little, too late. and that something comes of it. really i just want to go full liberty prime at this point though.

last i recall of hate crimes was solely that they increased sentences by adding on a modifier, but that knowledge is years old now so i've no clue if something changed there. given that he's a white guy that looks like he lets Jamal plow his Lifelong Pairbond Mate, though, i'm going to assume he's full of shit by default.
