I can only hope that most people in Detroit have started to see the phoenix is starting to rise from the ashes of Detroit and its history of arson and violence, and they want to work to help ushering a new golden era of Detroit, even if its not as good as it used to be pre-67 riot.

Realistically, the pre-67 days of Detroit won't return because of the irreversible impact of White Flight and the changes to education that also helped decimate the parochial schools that operated within the city (and state as a whole). However, Detroit has been taking steps in the right direction post-bankruptcy with leadership in both the Mayor and Police Chief. Both inherited big messes to clean up and they've done a remarkable job. Sure, there's far more that needs to be done, but the city is moving in the right direction and enough people (for now) realize that and don't want to see things revert to the way the were. Those demanding stuff such as free water and stuff are the same ones that have been trying to stymie Detroit's progress from day 1. The key is to hope they remain little more than a vocal minority.

It's not too surprising police in Portland or other areas where police response has been subdued are taking more action. Even if officials in those cities don't want to act, they realize Trump has put them behind the 8-ball. if they do nothing, Trump will bring in Feds -- as he already has in some places to arrest people on Federal charges -- to restore some semblance of order for those citizens that simply want to live their daily lives. If they do allow the police to do their job however, they risk alienating the same people who put them into office believing they would support their anti-police political ideology.

Well, I just simplify that down to my personal belief that all people are barely domesticated animals. Again, I disagree that saying putting the focus on the individual person to prove themselves instead of simply dismissing the person based on the group they come from will necessarily lead to destruction. I am not for open borders or quotas. Living near a bunch of 17th century Muslim goathearders who are resistant to change and actively hate your country and culture ain't great. So, I would keep them to their country, but if there happens to be a secular, intelligent, and open person who knows the language or is willing to learn and assimilate with something to offer our society from that country, eh, should at least consider giving that person a chance.
