'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Boy I'm glad this thread exists. Eventually I want to make a new PC build and (I know, I know) I think I'm forced into Windows 10 and Nvidia GPUs for the support and the performance. Can I mitigate the worst of their telemetry + other bullshit with the right software and, most importantly, a pihole?
AFAIK the telemetry bullshit was neutered in the "Creators Update", but more so in Pro and Enterprise versions. The latter deals with the update fucknuggetry as well.

what exactly are you trying to run that you can't do on linux? Only stuff I can think of is proprietary editing software and games that require you run anti-cheat where it demands windows exists or you're a hacker

Any source on this? I'll be doing my own googling later but anything juicy is appreciated. I see no reason why MS would cut telemetry in win10. It was already present in Windows 7 but you could handwave it off as just boring technical data and pretend it was whatever. Windows 10 basically comes with a RAT and there's no clue what they're getting, really.
It'd be nice to do a fresh install of win10 and then run a packet sniffer in between the machine and the first hop router to see how ludicrous it is but I haven't ran any of my own tests yet since I just avoid win10 as much as possible.

Granted, it's a Microsoft site, so [citation needed] all around. Privacy stuff starts at "Simple privacy settings that let you choose your experience with Windows". Pro and Enterprise had more settings available to fine-tune shit to begin with.

As for delaying upgrades: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/Compare
"Long Term Service Channel" is fancy corporate-speak for "we're going to delay updates as long as necessary so your critical systems don't get super fucked by a botched update like little Billy's COD machine".

I wanted a pihole for a long time so I'm wondering if I can kill two birds with one strone here. Or should I keep sinning and stay with Windows 8.1?

Also whoever said 'dual booting is a meme' was half-wrong because I stuck with a Linux OS for about a year and a half alongside Windows. I've got 3 physical drives, two of which are for Windows and the third is for Linux; when booted into Windows I can't see my Linux drive (intentional) but on Linux I can see my stuff in Windows but can't do move or alter the files - I'd like to be able to but anything I learnt about file systems while I was doing this hack job years ago is long forgotten. Can I get what I originally wanted: Windows only accessing the drive for games while Linux can access everything and everywhere?

plz no bulli and dumb the advice down for me a little because since I'm still learning
I'm really curious what distro you were on, as all the ones I've used have full R/W support for NTFS out of the box. Your best bet is probably to run a pre-configured babby's first distro like Mint, Pop!, or elementary and run a windows vm on top of that. For the rare cases where you can't do the thing you want in a vm or wine frontend like lutris/playonlinux you can boot into windows. I don't know why'd you want to go to 10, but if you do you'll probably want Windows 10 ameliorated. As a backup sharing files between OSes you may want to consider setting up a NAS using NFS, SMB/Samba, or FTP. Setup is basically idiot-proof now and can be done with just a raspberry pi, and has the added benefit of doubling as a backup solution.

Elder Scrolls modding tools. One of them for instance is DynDOLOD which mostly works but can't generate tree LODs due to having a depency that's broken in Wine and said LODs is like the most prominent reason to use it.
I think I have at least one game with Denuvo too but I don't play it that often.
@Dick Justice
I was on Kubuntu, can't tell you why I chose it other than it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Did you get wine from your distro's package repo or from the official wine one? Because Ubuntu's repos are perpetually out of date presumably so they don't break anything.

I need new thermal-paste

My Ryzen 7 2700x temperatures are fluctuating between 42 and 52, sometimes going to the mid 60s

I'm using the stock AMD Wratih Prism cooler that came with my chip, feeling like I need to upgrade it but I don't have much to spend

I play Pokemon Go. Would it be considered powerleveling if I posted my friend code on my profile page? No names or addresses etc. are shown in the game and my game info can't be traced to anything else I have on the internet. I just don't know if hacking or something could reveal dox? Just want to be sure.

Rule of thumb brosif, if you are unsure, don't. It's unlikely that it would even matter since you're probably not interesting enough to trash on. Getting doxxed is like getting caught with your dick out, unless you're an outlier people move on.

Why isn’t my Adblock working on YouTube anymore?
I’m forced to watch atleast two ads before the video will play and sometimes the ads are in excess of 5 minutes.

If by "Adblock" you mean Adblock Plus, they've had an "Acceptable Ads" program for almost a decade now: https://adblockplus.org/en/about#whymoney
If you mean something else, your blocklist might be out of date.

Honest to God, I wouldn't have even started blocking ads if they didn't go full kike mode with their bullshit. I wouldn't care less about a silent banner telling about deals. Nah, bullshit redirects for adparking.

How do you make DOSBox "fool" programs into "thinking" the system is running on a CGA or EGA graphics card, and no sound but beeps?

(I want to see old games in "8-bit mode".)

Games that support CGA/EGA should let you choose that in the setup. I know that in the Win95 and VGA/SVGA days I sometimes bumbled into those modes by fumbling the setup.

Watch this:

Read this, it's pretty cool.

Also this 8088 demo. (trigger warning: anime)
