Culture Oscars Adding ‘Inclusion Standards’ To Award Eligibility Amid Black Lives Matter Movement - Expect more black people, women and gays to win awards that they didn’t really need, earn or deserve

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will require films to meet “representation and inclusion standards” prior to eligibility for awards.

The Oscars didn’t reveal any details of the new standards, according to a news releaseshared by the organization Friday.

“While the Academy has made strides, we know there is much more work to be done in order to ensure equitable opportunities across the board,” Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. “The need to address this issue is urgent. To that end, we will amend—and continue to examine—our rules and procedures to ensure that all voices are heard and celebrated.”

“Through the dedication, focus, and concerted effort of our Board of Governors and members on the branch executive committees, the Academy has surpassed the goals of our A2020 initiative,” Academy President David Rubin said. “But to truly meet this moment, we must recognize how much more needs to be done, and we must listen, learn, embrace the challenge, and hold ourselves and our community accountable.”

The initiative was created to “advance inclusion in the entertainment industry and increase representation within its membership and the greater film community.”

A task force consisting of industry leaders will be formed by the end of July, according to the news release.

The move to become more inclusive comes after the Oscars were criticized in 2016 under the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite after no people of color were nominated for awards for two years in a row.

Didn't Hollywood get its collective panties into a twist when a certain UnAmerican Activities Committie started regulating what should or shouldn't be present in films?

"Artistic subversion is bad unless we do it," I assume.
Said it before, saying it again: if it wasn't for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.

This is one of those stories where the story isn't what's in the story, it's what's NOT in it.

Examined criteria for actors: race, sex, sexual orientation, disability.

Not examined criteria for actors: drug addiction, sex offender registration, domestic violence convictions, whether or not he's a pedophile.

Remember, your worth is determined by your place on the progressive stack AND NOTHING ELSE. You can be the biggest piece of shit on earth, but if you're a deaf black trans-lesbian, you're untouchable.

Having looked at it some more, their asinine criteria means that a crappy Tyler Perry movie would have a bigger shot at making it in before something like Braveheart or Joker. The fucking world we'd be living in if a new Madea movie gets nominated for the best film of the year.

So this completely eliminates period pieces and foreign film. A recent best picture winner, Parasite, would be excluded under these new rules.

Why does it feel that the whole movie awards thing just stopped matering after Return of the King in 2003?

Diversity means "No White People."

Considering Oscar winners have skewed 80 percent Jewish, does that mean there were few white people in them to begin with?

Anyway, the rule of thumb when it comes to institutions is that, right before they're done in by Wokeness, they go full virtue signal, ramping up the Social Justice to 1000 so that the people running the company can get cushy jobs in other institutions that are being run into the ground by SJWs. All this news means is that the Oscars is going the way of the Dodo pretty soon. Their TV audience will make Biden's campaign stops look like St. Peter's Square on Easter morning.

So shitty movies will win because they want to promote 'diversity'. And the Oscars become more irrelevant. Wasn't last years Oscar's the lowest viewership ever? And they think this is going to help? Fucking lol.
You got a point. When I was a fan and interested in whatever the latest of pop culture (AKA. Consumerism) I never was a fan of award shows. They just felt like pro-wrestling events without the wrestling. When it was over you felt like you wasted your whole evening away just to watch celebrities give other celebrities meaningless awards.

I liked awards shows in the 70s and 80s, we wanted to see what the actresses were wearing and gossip about that, and the nominees kept their political opinions to themselves back then.
The last awards show I watched had Michael Moore running his fat mouth about something he thought he was important enough for him to yap about.
Fuck that, and from what I see the day after, none of the actresses can dress worth a damn, either.

Semi related question: can anybody here tell me if this is true:
Actors in ancient Greece where it is believed to birth theater, had a social standing above criminals but below prostitutes. I picked it up years ago in an article I can't remember. Googled and found nothing of helping info.
Anyone of you know if this is accurate?

Because if so, let us go back to the good ol' days of entertainment.

I believe that was the Romans. Actors were like prostitutes, and had the social status of "infamis" which meant you were offically scum. The Romans absorbed most of Greek theater, but looked down on it, especially during the Republican era. They mellowed in the Imperial era, which coincided with them becoming degenerate faggots and their eventual decline and fall.

If you really want black people to be considered for Oscars, why not setup film schools in low income black neighborhoods and have the material be currated by big name directors. I mean, you wouldn't need to get film equipment. Everyone has a pretty good camera on their fucking smart phone now.

Nah, better to virtue signal and possibly break laws.
You'd think a guy like Tyler Perry, who's now worth a billion dollars, could put some shit like that into action but the only thing I've heard about him doing dealing with film schooling is working with the GA Film Academy, which offers courses for college students only. Meanwhile Kenny Leon, who's worth significantly less, at least has programs for every level of schooling including a monologue competition for High Schoolers with scholarships as a prize.

This is going to do more harm for representation

Many films vying for academy awards will just attempt to fulfill the bare minimum requirements

This will result in rushed casting and/or last minute script changes

This will result in both these films flopping with audiences and the Oscars continuing to hemorrhage viewers

Somewhere along the lines the people behind the Oscars will meet to discuss strategies to revitalize interest in the dying awards show

Instead of deciding to scrap the arbitrary checklists that encourage laziness diversity as a whole will be blamed which will ultimately hurt minorities in Hollywood who are legitimately talented just as much as the diversity hires
It's already happening in the animation industry.

Ok. I'm sure they'll use this fairly, especially for movies set in Africa, Arabia, or South America.

Does this mean that Wakanda will have a large population of Whites and Asians now?

This is all pointless window dressing. The guidelines are laughably easy to work around. Don't for a second be fooled that they weren’t designed for that very purpose. The money men would never let this diversity shit get in the way of making a buck.

This is nauseating, I guess we can forget about movies like Braveheart or Gladiator ever winning Best Picture again because "too many white people!"
At some point, I kind of stopped caring about the Oscars anyway. I'm sure most people did. This just speeds up their obsolescence.

"and the wokest movie is..."
