It's funny how Iran every year makes threats about 'destroying America' and 'destroying Israel' but they know they can't do shit then.
The dog that barks a lot has no bite anyway.
America was always dubious, especially when Iran got BTFO out by those fucking House of Saud Sunnis and their Hail
But they were working really hard on Israel, pumping money into Hezbollah and Hamas and doing their flight bombing shit to keep the Eurocucks from intervening.
The wonkinating was the reason they weren't more successful on that front is that from the revolution until 2003, was partly Iraq & Saudi Arabia (And Turkey until Erdogan) were completely impassible - all supply to allies in the area had to go around the Arabic pennisula and either through Suez or around Africa. After GW1 Iraqi security was, ironically, more apt to "watch and wait" suspected Mossad than Revolutionary Guard, because Israel wasn't working to actively undermine the regime (and in fact were generally happy with a Saddam-run Iraq once he wasn't building nukes or Babylon Guns; "Anonymous Sources" said that there was a back-room understanding between the Iraqi and Israeli military to allow Israeli bombers to penetrate Iraqi airspace to hit any Iranian nuclear reactors that might get built, provided they did not use Iraqi airspace to return - so big grain o' salt.)
When Iraq was now porous again, Iran was too busy trying to kill Americans and capture intel to sell to the chinese to really focus on das juden; Salami and possibly others recognized that even if all they did was control a 'shadow minority' in Iraqi politics, they could use Iraq to freely move arms to Syria, and then down to Hezbollah*. So win in Iraq now, triumph over the eternal jew later.
But that was also when you saw a very dramatic uptick in Hamas/Hezbollah action - leading to the 2006 Lebanon War - and that that's what they were doing with Sanctions in place and needing to dodge American patrols.
*There is a reason Israel hasn't gotten involved in Syria. Israeli intervention on either side would pretty much end the conflict, but they recognize that endless civil war in the country is the best thing they could hope for.
