At first I thought it was just people bitching about another kids cartoons and muh agenduhs but... honestly I can buy that the Owl House's creator self inserting. Self inserts are fine but idk modern creators spook me little, especially after Chris Savino and Vivziepop.

Seeing as shes a western lowland gorilla, despite obviously being a motif for a strong older woman and Japanese, i guess drawing her white is, "whitewashing"?

• Lincoln Loud - Loud House = creator Chris Savino
• Vivziepop did an Alice in Wonderland thing with herself as Alice, and some claim she repurposed that design into Charlie from Hazbin Hotel

Bonus:

• Dipper and Mabel Pines - Gravity Falls = Alex Hisch and his sister Ariel. Hirsch is also the partner of the creator of Owl House.
• Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst - Steven Universe = Rebecca Sugar
• Steven - Steven Universe = Steven, Rebecca Sugar's brother and artist for the show

I could see it, though it's weird they'd read the robot who's non-human as white just because her "pigtail" rocket thrusters are pointy. Goku has pointy hair too and nobody has trouble seeing it as a shaped afro for some reason.

@NoReturn gave good examples, but I meant that I don't trust modern creators since a lot of them get up to some... Unsavoury shit behind the scenes. Vivziepop drew porn with snakes, Chris Savino is an alleged sexual predator (hey, let's not forget John Lasseter and John Kris Faluci too).

A fair chunk of cartoon creators are disturbed, and if they're not, they're Rebecca Sugar and they make hot garbage like Steven Universe. The only ok cartoon creators I can think of is J. G. Quintel, the guy behind Powerpuff Girls and Genndy Tartakovsky.

Let's be honest here: artists are all a bit loopy. And any artist that dedicates enough time to become a professional at it can't be very right in the head.

Not disagreeing with you in regards to cartoonists being screwed in the head (I have a feeling that that's what comes with the job, since cartoons have always been synonymous with wacky characters), but Rebecca Sugar made Ed, Edd and Eddy porn before her big jump, though, so she's just as disturbed as the rest if Vivzie's stuff counts as disturbed enough.

Edit: Not sure if cartoonbrew is considered to be a credible source when it comes to western animation, but this short article reveals that Rebecca REALLY likes cartoon porn (and she even comments on this article).

Gravity falls was actually decent and (i think) Mabel actually paid for being a selfish brat several times, and she did some selfish, stupid shit in that show. Consequences in a modern cartoons, how unfortunately rare.

Tldr: how the hell is a guy with sense and a pinch of self awareness (that ive seen from his show) with the chick from owl house who's putting blatant self inserts into her show. At least with him, its not that obvious and feels more of an 'inspired by ' situation.
