I don't know if anyone has pointed this out to you, but the reason for that denial was because the Republicans controlled the Senate. If the opposition party is in power in an election year, the standard was to not support a nomination.

Maybe if Hillary had visited Wisconsin, that wouldn't be an issue, eh?

I doubt the GOP could perform an asspull within 45 days for a pick, it could possibly energize the Dems if they force it, but shit just got real for both sides since the election might somehow tangibly mean something worthwhile for either of them in the aftermath.
