That would also make the Republicans hypocrites since they were the ones REEEEEEEEEEEEing about not nominating a pick in an election year

If the Democrats cared more about winning than about decorum and "looking like the adults in the room", they might not be as comically ineffective party as they are. This is politics; the Dems don't just not want to talk about how the sausage is made, they don't even want to make sausage to begin with.

Kicking the can down the road was a winning move for the GOP in 2016. Filling the seat immediately will be a winning move now. Stomping their feet and shouting "NOT FAIR!" is all the Dems will do. And y'know what? It ISN'T fair -- it is literal hypocrisy --, but y'know what else? The GOP got to confirm two extra life appointees than they perhaps would have if the Dems had even a rudimentary spine. The GOP may be hypocrites, but they don't care: they want to pass their agenda and use the courts to dismantle the Dems agenda and they are succeeding to an unbelievable degree.

I hope Trump pushes through some 40 year old self-proclaimed nationalist with a fashy undercut who will be on the court for the next 50 years for maximum shitlib meltdown potential.

Yeah, who cares about fucking up the country, as long as we can stick it to those libs, right?

They don't think it's fucking the country up, tho. You are doing that liberal thing where you think that, in the core of their being, conservatives have the same worldview liberals do, but are just being contrarian for no reason (or for profit or for *insert cynical reason here*) -- it's like the fundie thing where they say "Oh, atheists really do believe in god. They just say they don't so they can sin". That's not the case. The GOP is absolutely, earnestly convinced of their own worldview and the dire, pressing need to enact the agenda they based around it to the point that they're willing to do "scummy", "hypocritical" things to advance it.

Imagine if your family was starving and literally your only option was to let them starve or go rob a bank to get money to buy food. The Dems would be the ones saying "well, it's very unfortunate, but we need to respect the rules even if sometimes that means bad things happen to good people. I wish we could get food, but there's no realistic way to do it. I'm so sorry". The GOP would mask up, knock over the bank, feed their family and then deal with the consequences later.

To the Dems, the means justify the ends. To the GOP, the ends justify the means. The latter is the exponentially more effective mindset for governing.

Probably, but either way I think it will be a woman.

I could definitely see Rao getting the nomination as well since she's not White and is therefore a bit more ironclad against the inevitable Democrat obstructions.

If Mitch McConnell and Trump are smart about it, they'll do everything they can in their power to get RBG's seat on the court filled with either Barrett or Rao ASAP. Let's see if McConnell can use the nuclear option to try and fast track the nomination against any obstruction efforts while the Senate is still Republican controlled
Rao's nomination attracted some opposition due to some of her college writing on race, sexual assault, and feminism.[16] In response, Rao publicly apologized for these writings.[17] A hearing on her nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee was held on February 5, 2019. Rao was asked by several Senators about her college writings, some of which they viewed as sexual assault victim blaming. Rao responded that "A victim of a horrible crime is not to blame and the person who commits those crimes should be held responsible."[18]
Well we already know where that's going to lead to. I would not at all put it past the Dems to try and Kavanaugh a POC woman, this is going to be an utter shitshow regardless of what happens.

I'm gonna fucking laugh at anyone that complains about Republican hypocrisy in pushing through another justice.

After the last five years of the left turning pro-war, pro-violence, turning into victim blamers, demanding people with guns rise up and fight the government for them, and in every other way doing an about-face on every single one of the supposed pillars of their entire belief system just to pwn Drumpf, you're gonna have the fucking audacity to complain about ramming through a justice with the nuclear option you demanded? Really?
>''NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T INSTALL A JUSTICE 2 MONTHS BEFORE AN ELECTION WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY!! WHAT ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION"
>These people not 20 minutes before RBG passed away
>Top 9 Reasons Biden-Harris Should Stack the Supreme Court via Executive Fiat (And That's A Good Thing)

Amy Coney Barrett. If it's not her, then it's Neomi Rao.

I think Trump will replace RBG's spot on the court with a woman. It's the best for optics and both of these judges are fairly conservative, especially Barrett

Barrett: female, white, catholic, notre dame law, scalia's clerk, seventh circuit, strong conservative

Rao: female, indian, jewish, uchicago law, thomas' clerk, dc circuit, strong trump supporter

The odds are heavily in Rao's favor. I'm putting money on Neomi Rao taking RBG's seat and Barrett replacing Rao on the DC Circuit and, eventually, replacing Clarence Thomas in Trump's second term.

FUCK YOU STUPID BITCH FOR RUINING THIS COUNTRY. NEVER FORGET 9/18, BEST MONTH THIS YEAR. FUCK YOU STUDP DUMB BITCH The dumb beast used to the yoke, FOOL AND THE DUMB SPEAK licker, I was licking the does, however, can not forget the BLOOD-VESSEL SEA DOG rinse their mouth they speak I ought to I ought to
If you thought the hysteria was bad already.... Jesus Christ.
don't use the Lord's name in vain.

Yeah, this year is offically going worse than my worst case scenario.
I've been too optimistic.

Forget gasoline, this is like pouring kerosene, or ultra ignite point jet fuel on an infero and then dropping thermite onto it. If she had died literally several months before or later I would not worry, but this means things might accelerate too fast now.

If you thought the hysteria was bad already.... Jesus Christ.

I genuinely convinced that she died months ago and people played her death now to memory hole the atrophy of support in the protests and declining Biden polling, but yeah, her dying right now is going to make shit get real for the next 45 days. Look at twitter, it's fucking awful and rally-around-the-flag tier garbage.

You can feel whatever you want-- you don't need anybody's permission. Convincing them of the validity of your feelings is another issue, though.

Pretty sure she wasn't on that panel, though she has criticized it.

You're correct, Roe v Wade was ruled on in 1973 and RBG didn't become a Supreme Court Justice until 1993 under Clinton's presidency where she replaced Byron White. I was actually a bit surprised she's only been on the court since 1993 as it felt like she'd been there longer.

Stop throwing tantrums when you lose.

And suddenly all kinds of things aren't a situation where the country is about to get fucked up! anymore.

I am not throwing a tantrum, I am just saying his logic is putting "screwing people over" ahead of bettering the country, and is retarded. Just like your point and you.

Lots of people echoing this sentiment right now:

You shouldn't have slandered a man as a rapist for political purposes with a woman who hasn't retracted her accusation because she made it under oath.

Oh shit. Now there going be a higher turn out for liberals and more incentive for the democrats to do some election fuckery.
Not necessarily. Depends on the popularity of the nominee, who is likely Amy Coney Barrett, and the timing of the hearings and vote. It would be easy but for Murkowski, Collins, and Romney. But it will be so tense that when it farts only dogs will hear it.

Yeah, who cares about fucking up the country, as long as we can stick it to those libs, right?

"Get our guy into a permanent position of power by any means necessary" is a pretty consistent viewpoint IMO.

She was supposed to retire under Obama so she could pass her seat to her party, but since everyone thought Hillary was going to win she screwed up and now Republicans get the rare chance to flip the supreme court. As long as the future republicans learn their lesson from this and retire if they're old and have had multiple cancers it will essentially flip the court forever.
