Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at 87. - 🦀

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Strong disagree. Young RBG was pretty normal looking. Not really particularly ugly or beautiful. Of course she looks worse with age and having cancer half a dozen times.

Meanwhile Young Kagan.

Sonia Sotomayor isn't exactly a looker either. I'll always remember the three of them being described as looking like Roald Dahl villains in this image back when MPC was still around.

The way people on twitter who couldn't name one SC justice a week ago are suddenly acting like Ginsburg was some kind of woke queen is what really gets me. She was born in the 1930s. She criticized Kaepernick kneeling for the national anthem. She approved an oil pipeline through Native American land. She was close friends with Scalia, who was insanely conservative, and that alone would get her cancelled in modern internet culture.
That feeling of average dumbasses suddenly becoming experts is not uncommon. Everyone gains expertise on a variety of topics when either a new tv series comes out (When Chernobyl premiered, suddenly all my coworkers became nuclear physicists), or big news happens (Suddenly, despite working on multiple Iranian studies and having an interest in the country, I was less experienced than my dipshit friend who couldn't point out Tehran on a map when it came to Middle East relations after Salami got sliced).

I agree about the court, but increasing the House is necessary because they're supposed to be a proportional representative body. The requirement that every state have at least one Representative while simultaneously limiting the size of the House to 435 makes a mockery of the notion of proportional representation.
It can be done -- there's still one representative for every ~760,000 people -- but you're right that that is not ideal. Part of the problem is that if you make it much bigger, you run out of room in the Capitol. (I've long thought that it would be a good idea to move the seat of government to, say, Topeka. The Democrats want to make D.C. a state, but a better idea in that regard would be to keep the Federal district, where no one lives, and give the rest of it back to Maryland and Virginia.)

That's the elephant in the room for white feminists. Accepting that their 20th century feminist heroes were still incredibly racist. They have yet to properly reconcile that past with the present, and it's why black/latina feminists are often at odds with them.

White 21st century feminists are still racist, which is why they think all the Noble Savages need their help.

Huh this sounds vaguely familiar, but I cant figure out where this happened before, oh wait I know

A summary of what happened:
The Caning of Charles Sumner occurred on May 22, 1856, in the United States Senate, when Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery Democrat from South Carolina, used a walking cane to attack Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist Republican from Massachusetts, in retaliation for a speech given by Sumner two days earlier in which he fiercely criticized slaveholders
The beating nearly killed Sumner and it contributed significantly to the country's polarization over the issue of slavery. It has been considered symbolic of the "breakdown of reasoned discourse" and the use of violence that eventually led to the Civil War.

Cause pregnancy is some terrifying body horror shit that can straight up kill you, and the end product is an extremely expensive, difficult to care for shit goblin a lot of us do not want and are not capable of caring for properly.

Come to the girly boards, you will learn many things.
:story:

Sounds like I'll learn who not to ask out on a date. Jesus Christ.

If any white person ends up as the nominee they’ll definitely go for the racist angle. MeToo was still a hot topic during the Kavanaugh hearing but now it’s all about Black Lives Matter. I’m sure any non-white people who interacted with the nominee will be peacefully encouraged to tell their totally true tales of the blatant, relentless racist behavior they were subjected too. Just watch. This will lead to more screeching about white supremacy and more excuses to protest riot. Fits perfectly with the current narrative.

Sandra Day O'Connor is the only white female Justice to ever serve, and the first female Justice, and she is also still alive.

How do the kids say it now, "YAS QUEEN SLAY!!!!"
...but for real though, I really looked up to her instead of Ruth before the 2012-2016 Election debacle.

Exactly, and if it's a black guy they still might find some woman to say she got sexually harassed or raped (see Clarence Thomas). Honestly, Trumps only choices are a conservative black woman or maybe even a Hispanic woman. I'm not familiar enough with the pool of federal judges to know if such a person exists but that's where he needs to look first. Identity politics is dumb, but given the current timeframes it's really the only option.

Sadly she probably wont be with us much longer. I believe she has Alzheimers or similar. How much do you want to bet the media and flaming feminists all but ignore it when she dies?
