KUTV — A Kane County man, known on YouTube as 'The Happy Scientist,' was arrested on 10 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after investigators reportedly found “thousands upon thousands” of pornographic images involving children.
John Robert Krampf, 64, was charged earlier this month after a search warrant was served by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at his Kanab home in relation to possessing child abuse material.
Krampf was indicted in federal court on Thursday on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Krampf admitted to using multiple online file-sharing programs to download images of child abuse material, with his most recently downloaded content occurring August 2020.

Review of computers and electronic storage devices by investigators resulted in thousands of images and videos of child abuse materials, the PC statement said.
In an article by St. George News, the amount of data recovered led investigators to believe that Krampf “had apparently been doing this for a long time.”
Also, as reported by St. George News, investigators learned that Krampf produced a number of educational videos for school-age children relating to various science subjects on YouTube.
The collection of videos, titled “The Happy Scientist,” is narrated by Krampf. One of the videos called, "Slippery Squirrel," was viewed more than 3.3 million times.
Krampf is scheduled to appear via video in U.S. District Court in St. George before Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler on Monday.

I genuinely do not understand. Legitimately, unironically, do not understand, why prosecutors do not even try to seek the death penalty for child porn and pedophilia.

It would be the biggest slam dunk ever. No one would disagree unless the perp was a jogger or a woman. But if it's an old white guy, fuck it. No one will defend him. Just put him out of his misery.

I actually asked a prosecutor this once, and was told that the concern is that it is already very difficult to get children to report pedos due to intimidation/guilt/difficulty being believed. and once they do, many face hatred from their families.

If kids then knew that doing that could potentially cause the death of the person they’re reporting... it could serve to make it even more difficult for them to come forward, and could lead to even more intense hatred from the families.

I’m not sure whether or not it truly would, but it seemed like something they had clearly thought about and weighed both sides of, so I’m willing to at least accept they’re right on this one.
