Roblox uses the Lua programming language has it's own game editing features where you can make your game, and programmers can make money off these games on top of it. Because of these features it's way easier to make games in comparison to using game engines or programming languages like Unreal Engine and C++. That's the appeal to roblox to people from what I hear. Also the amount of sub communities you'll find within the roblox sphere are quite numerous according to some I've talked to.
