I feel dizzy reading this thread and I haven't even seen any pics.

This is a great example of the "and then one day, for no reason at all..." meme, the fact that this butchery has become so commonplace and is allowed to continue unabated is proof that something is fundamentally broken about modern society, the fascist backlash to all this is seeming more and more inevitable by the day.

It's just so fucking alienating when the programming of mainstream culture breaks down and you see reality for the nightmare that it is.

It's also very contradictory. The prevailing trans narrative these days is that "passing" is an outdated and irrelevant concept and society just needs to accept dickgirls and bearded women. If that's the case, then why are these interventions being performed on teenagers? If it's no longer related to helping them pass as adults, then we're left with "so they don't have the trauma of experiencing the wrong puberty", which is pretty sketchy and should be addressed by therapists, not surgeons.

The only real benefit seems to be to the bank balances of the surgeons involved.

I'm still understanding why it's not enough to say that people can dress or identify however they please, which is already envelope pushing enough, but just please, for your own sake, don't take the knife to your genitals.

It's too new for the hard evidence that it harms more people than it helps to exist. Who on earth is going to fund that research when only those with an agenda are interested in using it?

That's why we're largely left with anecdotes being accepted as evidence. And once you have a "rock star" like Marci Bowers in the game it becomes easier for other surgeons to present themselves as credible. Bowers' background acts as a kind of shield for SRS surgeons in general.

It would be interesting to know how often they turn patients down.

I've seen complaints about people being turned down because of weight/BMI but that's often the hospital's call and not the surgeon's. My recollection is that when Bowers told Jazz Jennings that she would need to lose weight for surgery it was presented as a hospital requirement rather than a limit imposed by Bowers.

There is no doubt that the trans industry is a cash cow, for therapists, endocrinologists and surgeons alike. As long as patients want easy access at the expense of ethical service delivery, it's unlikely this will change.

I'm glad this thread was made, I know some people like to laugh at and point at trans identified people, but at the end of the day, most are not lolcows, a lot are decent people that are confused and being lied to about the realities of transgender surgery. I'm also glad you made the OP from a place of compassion and facts. I feel terrible for confused kids or adults who try to look up information about transgender surgery and all they find is "good" results. They find a bunch of sites that glamorize and just flat out lie about how "awesome" everything is.

Every single time someone posts a question on one of the reddit trans subs, all you see is comments from people claiming how amazing it is and how it's totally worth it. Anything negative if downvoted or quietly removed. I'm not going to link it, but last week I found a 12-13 year old girl posting on reddit. She went from a regular young girl to lesbian to trans in 4 freaking months! The worst part is how she is being encouraged to go down this path and everyone is telling her how amazing it will be.

I do wonder if maybe long term, there should be a separate board for this subject? Maybe there could be a separate thread for each doctor? That way, if you're searching for one butcher, you can find information about them in the OP and then see all the horrors they produce in one place VS trying to look through a huge thread that hosts everyone. Idk, I just feel like long term this thread could get really cluttered and long. Either way, good job OP.

Smart thread, I'll need to keep an eye on this for sure. I suspected things could easily go wrong, but seeing those pictures (bad habit of clicking spoiler tags while I read) was shocking. The disregard that those surgeons show is horrifying too. I've been under the knife more than a few times, and imagining someone who made it all the way through med school having such a blatant disregard for basic medical professionalism really makes my skin crawl. Hell, I've even had to do some decent first aid and I don't think I could take cutting stuff away that flippantly.

Before the idea gets floated, there is historical precedent for the desire for SRS, dating at least as far back as the third century. Small history lesson: The Roman Emperor Elagabalus was famously (highly likely) a troon, referring to themselves as Queen, dressing in feminine clothes, depilating, etc. In his historical documents from the time, Cassius Dio included an anecdote about Elagabalus searching for a physician who could give them the equivalent of a vagina. Needless to say they didnt find anyone capable. Now Dio was biased and sometimes had to rely on rumours, but it's clear he didn't invent the idea whole cloth. Hopefully that gets ahead of the first person fresh out of philosophy class to claim that the desire for SRS is some kind of modern invention.

I think the best way for this thread to go would be to focus on doctors behaving badly. Like, we all know the results are going to be trainwrecks, but I'd be interested in reading some back-and-forths between doctors and their desperate patients (victims) after the deed is done.

I don't have any on-hand but it's considerably less catastrophic. Most of the horror photos come from the arm or leg that they use to form the neophallus. And, obviously, adding a wad of flesh on top of something is much less dangerous than boring a hole into your body. After a couple of surgeries, it certainly looks convincing, but it's functionally useless. I don't know if the process is reservable, either. I feel like it's just an issue with numbers, there's vastly more MtFs than FtMs, especially those who are ready and willing to share their surgery results online.

I get most MTF are disappointed by their results and have convinced themselves they'll get a real vagina™ from these surgeries but I wonder sometimes if they ever stop to consider that you can't invert a vagina in a FTM to make it a dick, they literally flay their arms, so why the fuck would it magically work in reverse with a penis.

I know they aren't the smartest people but the absolute levels of wishful thinking they have in reguards to SRS and the even higher levels of purposeful ignorance as to what they'll wind up with is truly baffling.
