I don't believe he ever had to, I think he wanted to. He always did Filthy Frank and his music simultaneously, both as Pink Guy, and then the more serious Chloe Burbank mixtape. I think the Frank stuff was fun for awhile, but as he got older, he matured, and didn't want to be the Vomit Cake guy forever, so he became Joji full-time. Although, I do often wonder what Frank would have become, had he continued. I can imagine a Filthy Frank rant style video ripping on Ian's current behaviour, but I can also see people growing weary of the bit, and abandoning him, so he made the right move at the right time, quitting before it became too stale. I also believe Ian is desperately trying to remain relevant, and might be trying to make more mature content of his own, like his documentaries, but it's just not hitting as well as Joji's music. Outside of the Content Cops, his videos are just kind of "who cares?" and everyone has moved on from him, at this point. I suppose there could be a "nothing left to lose, so I may as well wear a dress and hold a chicken" mentality going on, but I really think iDubbbz is stagnating, and trying to cling to whatever relevancy he has left

Ian abandoned all of the videos that made his channel popular at all in the first place, which is why he has little to no relevance now. Bad Unboxing and Content Cop were the popular ones, with Kickstarter crap following those, and he does none of them anymore. No one cares about his documentary stuff, or anything he tries to do that has a more serious tone.
