Frankly, I'd say Biden's campaign is closer to Hillary's; his rallies are small (granted, he can use the coof as an excuse), he visits states even less frequently than Hillary did, and in general adopts a preachy, holier-than-thou attitude towards the country. I still think the outcome of the election is largely going to boil down to whether or not the virus has another resurgence and whether or not Trump gets all the blame for how hard the virus has hit us.
Let's remember, Biden generally doesn't promote his events. The people who show up tend to be very local - they saw people setting up and stopped to see what's going on. When the campaign does send out alerts, it tends to be about a couple hours beforehand.
When he has announced his events in advance, hecklers show up. They tend to outnumber regular attendees by a large margin.
So event attendance is probably a poor measure of overall popularity. The DNC is looking to maximize voter enthusiasm without having to leave the house. Here's hoping the average Dem voter can't fill out their ballot (which is possible) and that the ballot harvesting schemes don't amount to much.
As far as attitudes go... I've seen various polls that indicate most voters don't believe Trump handled the virus very well but also ones that indicate they don't think it's his fault. The data is murky on whether people actually blame him or not. My gut tells me most people are looking at their local elected officials when they think about the virus and they're thinking about quality of life - can I go out without a mask, when was the last time I went to a bar, am I able to go to my vacation home.
The strongest attitudinal data I've seen is about violence in the streets. People burning down cities doesn't sit well with Americans. The only question is who do they hold accountable. There's been enough rhetoric about white supremacists that a certain percentage of normies are going to blame them, but I'm not convinced it's a large number (or even a majority.) I think the average person gets the fact there's protests going on during the day and rioters coming out at night, and it's Dem officials who refuse to hold them accountable.
I fucking hate ANTIFA. They lie, make everyone else into a liar, and have politicians trying to sidestep the issues to avoid getting on their bad side. This is not going to end well.
