Also interestingly enough, the theme of one the characters from Hunter x Hunter is clearly based off the first movement in the Rite of Spring. You can listen and determine for yourself. Since it's such an acclaimed anime, you'd think it would hint to someone like Digi that music is something serious that requires contemplation and knowledge to effect in a worthwhile manner. Hell, you'd expect a musical prodigy like Digi to pick up on this in the first place, which he clearly hasn't since he would make a video about it to dunk on all the unintellectual anitubers out there (because music is his thing, right?). He's just playing at being smart, which is the worst type of sophistry.

I think Hunter X Hunter appeals to Conrad largely because it's a pretentious show in the way you named. There are numerous references to classic pieces of art, like the one you mentioned, but they don't have any greater meaning. This is how most "deconstruction" shows are (HXH is a deconstruction of the shounen genre, which is a popular genre of adventure anime shows for boys): They deconstruct a formula where the parts all contribute to a greater whole, resulting in a product where the parts do not contribute to a greater whole. That might appeal to people who've gotten tired of the old formula (and shounen shows tend to be very formulaic), but whenever I reached the end of a story arc in HXH, the excitement died down, and I felt "That was it? What was the point of it all?"

I've tried for a few minutes to come up with some snide comment but I can't. Digi, you're not a smart person. Even moderately intelligent people understand how important it is to live with and understand their emotions.

I guess you don't have to do that when you're too busy eating piles of benzos.

I don't think Digibro is actually stupid, or at least he was not before he got into drugs. He simply is ignorant about nearly everything, and lacks the humility it takes to truly become educated (not to mention the discipline). As a result, he seems extra stupid, having the mental horsepower to go far in completely misguided and ridiculous directions. It's like that old saying "an idea so stupid that only a highly intelligent person could convince himself it is true."

Probably the two biggest symptoms indicative of his mental deficiencies (other than personality problems) are:

1) Lack of Japanese language proficiency. For someone who makes his living off of critically examining Japanese literary culture (especially serialized popular fiction), Digi has not made any serious attempts to learn the language. A normal person generally doesn't have the ability or free time to pick up a second language to supplement their hobby (especially one as a different as Japanese), but Digibro has both of these. Someone who wants to be an authority on Japanese short fiction shouldn't be relying wholly on translations. Five years is plenty of time for an adult to become proficient enough to begin reading short fiction aimed at a general audience in its native language with only casual dedication, but Digi doesn't seem interested in even attempting this.

2) Lack of video production skills. Digi still doesn't know how to do basic video production despite being a youtuber for almost a decade at this point. This is the kind of shit that American teenagers and barely literate pajeets can attain competence in within a few weeks. He's literally too retarded to read a basic book on AfterEffects or whatever production suite he uses.

Like, you can see they spent a lot of money to make the videos much better, I'll give them that. They also had a sponsor, promocode type. Nothing really big, but with the video not performing that well, I doubt they'll make much of it and I doubt they'll get bigger better sponsors so soon. But, presentation-wise, it was really good.

The video is getting ratio'd. I mean, they clearly don't like ReZero and one could argue it is just salty fanboys, but I think they are really half-assing the watching part. They make so many mistakes about what is going on - that's coming from someone who thinks ReZero is very overpraised. So below, that's is from their editor's fiverr. I wonder what they pay him condering it's $85 for "up to 35 minutes" and most of their videos are longer. It's also most likely more than 75 minutes of footage since they have three cameras. It's probably cheaper in bulk but still. If that's remotely like what they actually pay per video they come out with a big loss. And then there's Victor's camera work too.

Maybe it's just the nerd in me, but I couldn't make it past four minutes into the Kahntent video about re:zero due to the combination of them asking for money to make it, and them getting a basic fact about the show wrong that I picked up on with very low investment in the show within the first four minutes of the show. It's just an example of the laziness and lack of respect of his audience that he's exhibited for years now.

I'm the fool because there was a time where I'd skip the anime just based on his videos. Now I skip the video based on watching the anime. Those poor overworked and underpaid bastards who made it at least deserve more attention than this lazy and delusional cretin.

As someone who really likes Re:zero and who also listened to every one of the Khantent episodes about it, I can at least say some of their opinions/criticisms aren't bad. I do agree it does stretch out quite a bit and sometimes it seems like it just wants to keep a conversation going on for more than it need to.

However, that's basically all the "good" criticisms they actually have towards the series as most others come from their unwillingness to actually read and or pay attention. Agreed. If I compare this video to the one of the KHANENT done for Made in Abyss movie, it's clear to see that Nate is the one who still has a burning passion for this stuff. Digi mostly seems content whining and mostly agreeing with Nate, while I can still feel Nate wants there to be good shows and desperately trying to find things he likes even in shows he feels are sub-par.

No shit. The fact that the show is a clear spin/180 on the another world fantasy wish fulfillment trope is good enough for me, even if it is slow as hell sometimes. I've seen way too much anime myself and I still think this show is worth watching just for the fact that you never know what the fuck will happen next because the writer clearly wanted to constantly throw people for a loop. The actions the characters take are in fact, true to their character and NOT logical; and Digi/Nate repeating over and over that what the main character or other character do is "stupid" isn't a valid critism because it's true to the character in question. Oh that and Digi hates mystery stories and has the patience of a todler, so no wonder he hates it.

Verdict: Nate should make more content on his own, but he's THE procrastinator so he needs an external party to force him to work on stuff, sadly.

I disagree. While it's true that much tonal music has the occasional dissonance, “unstable” harmonies that must be “resolved” to consonance, atonal music doesn't have that "resolution" since it doesn't have a central tone. Listen to atonal composers like Schoenberg and you won't see that kind of contrast, and yet their music is pretty fun to listen to when you get used to it.

True, although for obvious reasons you won't see atonal music in works like Fantasia because of how unusual it is for the average listener like you do with The Rite of Spring, which does a better job of giving people a foundation in something more familiar through contrast.

I agree though it's awesome to listen to, and that's partly why I actually think Digi's music is unintentionally kind of interesting, and why i'm sort of harping on my own self conception of the Intellectual artist vs the Characteristic artist; in that if he were more humble and open to his insufficiencies musically, there is sort of an idiot savant thing going on there if he were to embrace it with just how amazingly bad he is at it all.

Yeah it depends on the Melody right? Honestly the last time i've even really thought about The Rite of Spring was when I was reading the book Proust was a Neuroscientist, which was well over a decade ago, so I can't really remember all the specifics at this point. The book did a far better job than I could of breaking it down. I'm sure somebody around here more knowledgeable could do a better job than I am of explaining it further.
