Yep. The current sorry bunch of mods only know how to act when someone wrongthinks or misgenders someone. They had no idea how to react to all the shit that happened so they did nothing. I think if they struck quickly and memory holed everything, it likely would have worked out. That’s what happens when you have hapless losers moderating the site. Of course, anyone who wasn’t a hapless loser would have bailed out. There are enough sociopathic goons who wouldn’t mind locking everything down, though.

There's not banning her because she had keys to the castle, and then there's outright protecting her from meanies on the forums for god only knows what fucking motivation. Nothing but bleeding momentum for that place, even with the prospect of being rid of Lowtax (which also won't ever happen) dangling in the air.

Mods knew. Mods knew, for fucking years, that Richard is a serially abusive piece of shit. Mods knew, but they chose to look the other way and ban anybody saying mean things (especially truthful things) about Richard while continuing to funnel massive amounts of cash into his pockets so he could continue buying $80 pies and so the mods could continue working for him 24/7 for free. They would have kept doing it out of pure inertia and cowardice, but they were too slow on the draw when the Logan Day incident occurred, so now the mods are trying to pretend that they weren't on Richard's side all along.

It wasn't just this, either.

Many a user called out Koalas March for ripping off people in her subforum, and more than one user even went as far as to create properly documented threads in QCS not just slagging KM, but actually saying "hey, there is an SA mod grifting off the userbase, and here is the proof."

This was met with a permaban and account suspension so the SA user could never functionally post again under that account. Bring up pedo behavior by the mods, with link to offsite comments or posts? Permaban.

There were times when Kewpuh would flat out allow witch hunts to occur in the games forums over perceived threats when he was bored, and at other times, ignored doxxing threads when it suited him. VideoGames flat out just killed all discussion in the forum, which you would think is not a behavior you would want in your mods. LightningKnight banned anyone from D&D who engaged in actual debate that was outside the SA Overton Window, and a handful of mods left up threads describing how to build pipebombs, advocating for terrorism, and killing political leaders, even when they were reported.

I am convinced at this point the "war" prosecuted by the "nazis" on offsites (KF, BMW, etc) was more to give the community a straw man to burn that distracted from the actual issues.

There is a *very* old common law notion called the "Doctrine of Unclean Hands," that basically argues an aggrieved party isn't entitled to any relief from the defendant because the aggrieved acted unethically themselves. Who's hands here are clean? And more to the point, why does SA even matter anymore? SA really doesn't need to exist now. Just pull the plug. The mods are corrupt to the core, the userbase is complicit when not advocating for overthrowing the government by force or assassinating the sitting potus (both of which raise entirely different issues). The "nazis" only became nazis when they advocated things like common sense, restraint, and not being insane.

SA is a wounded dog beyond saving, suffering. It would be more dignified at this point to just put it out of its misery.

Where would be the fun in that? I don't think anyone involved in the forums wants it to be dignified. Lowtax wants it to be his cash cow. Jeff wants to be king turd of the septic tank. The shrieking trannies need it for validation. We want it to laugh at.

How is B&R these days? Is the purity policing still ongoing, or are they already dead once all wrongthinkers have been banned? Or did they just quietly creep back to SA with girltails between their legs?

There was that Vice article written earlier this year about SA and it came and went without much of an impact. 10-15 years ago, there would be interest but not now. I think it would make a good story about him and SA when the divorce is finalized with Ashli. Even then there are no shortage of riches to rags stories, many of them far more interesting than Lowtax’s.

There's no real story there, though. The best he could hope for is a pity $10/20,000 deal from a smaller publisher - who would want the rights just in case he does something even crazier down the line.

Any interesting parts to his life as a "webmaster" have repeatedly been overshadowed by more successful people, to a point where most normal people have no idea what Something Awful even is. No one wants to read a book about "how my life could have been easily successful but I couldn't be bothered to do anything with the enormous opportunity I stumbled into. In a time where Facebook and Amazon went from nothing to literal international juggernauts - my website turned to ash."

Lowtax has a very specific writing style ("Early 2000s internet era ironic writing") that wouldn't make for much of a book, I could not imagine 200+ pages of "ironic" typos and callbacks to jokes from 2005.

"Former Planet Quake poster makes Portal of Evil spin-off site, forums go on to be infamous for 6-9 years before slow-mo imploding for another 15" is an interesting footnote in a larger chapter about the internet. You'd probably get more mileage out of moot or the reddit guys.

If the archives weren't fucked and if the good posters hadn't been scattered to the winds, a sort of collective retrospective project would be neat, weaving in Richard's disastrous life and his many run ins with other internet characters between stories of the internet of yore.

On SASS or TNE OR SS I they all run together for me richard was approached by national lampoon for a comedy book he replied in a wacky zanny I ll write using my alter ego of cliff Y where i just hate on everything.
