Netflix, Inc. indicted by grand jury in Tyler Co., Tx for promoting material in Cuties film

If Netflix haven't done so already, they need to make a documentary about the Streisand Effect, and then immediately view it and absorb its cautionary message.

Any action that drags out the Cuties fiasco, broadens mainstream public exposure to the film. I am going to make the assumption that, outside of the usual pockets of degeneracy, the overall response to a movie that claims to comment on the gratuitous sexualisation of children, by gratuitously sexualising its underage cast, is not going to be greeted favourably. Furthermore, the longer this goes on, the greater the risk of a cast member commenting unfavourably on the production of the film. Heaven help the producers if any of the audition footage leaks.

Netflix have decided that the hill they want to die on is the flat chest of a barely pubescent young girl, but I wonder how the Obamas feel about having their names associated with the birthplace of nonce-wave cinema?

The only winning strategy is to follow George Lucas's example and admit that you may have gone too far in a few places.
I would agree but I honestly don't know how this will play out now. As for any of the actors coming out about anything, I don't think they would. This was a French production, keep in mind. Over in France shit like this is probably normal or at least not nearly looked down upon as it is in the US. The child actors probably won't say anything because they can be told just about anything in regards to why people are outraged about the film, and the other cast members probably all side with the production, either because they actually don't see the issue or because it could cost them their careers, but that's utter speculation.

Only time will tell if this will gain any traction. People need to keep making noise, though, especially now that there's a case. I think that's all anyone can do at this point.

Can't they split it up?
If I take 1 minute of hardcore child pornography and splice it into 59 minutes of documentary about child sex trafficking, I don't have 60 minutes of edgy documentary, I have 59 minutes of documentary and 1 minute of porn.
The scenes with the crotch shots don't have much serious artistic value.
I'm not a lawyer.

That said, pretty sure the law doesn't care for the purposes of charging the crime whether the video is proportionally not all CP. It's still one count of the crime.

There likely would be arguments levied in defense that utilize similar logic though. For example that the "low proportion" of objectionable content within the context of the work sways in favor of the work having any "serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value" (not the worst argument in the world given the level of scrutiny and standard of proof), or to argue by proportion that the film does not "appeal[] to the prurient interest in sex" (NOT a good argument, but I can see the lawyer making it in the process of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks).

A discussion about "breaking it up" would likely be a discussion had with regards to re-edits or re-shoots for further legal distribution of the film rather than the actual case in the courtroom.

Isn't Tyler County the same county where Ty Beard (aka the Vic Lasagna lawyer) is at?
Tyler County =/= Tyler, Texas. Ty is in Tyler, TX, and the lawsuit with Vic was filed in Tarrant County. I did a double take at first too.

Probably a waste of everyone's time. Easy argument to make that it's got some sort of purpose beyond the purient. Funny, though, and that's important.
LOL

Doesn't Texas have a huge hate boner for homosexuals'?

Kind of hypocritical.
Huh? Do you think that anyone who is not homosexual wants to diddle little girls? How is it 'hypocritical'?

So that means Texans like to diddle little girls? Cool bro

I'd expect nothing less from a "True & Honest Fan"

The 1A protections in America are strong enough that I can't help but doubt that it'll be found that Cuties will fail to have "no serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value." But depending on how high up the initial ruling gets appealed, it could lead to some disturbing precedents if so. Maybe it would have been better to not legally pursue a borderline case like this and instead let Netflix continue to face backlash and judgment in the court of public opinion.

What kind of parent would let their kids star in a film in which they will need a psychologist?
What kind of parent would let their kids be castrated over gender demons? There will be no shortage of parents that will be brainwashed into thinking this is fine.

In ten years when pedophilia has become normalized these mindless, media-brainwashed parents will offer up their kids and feel progressively virtuous in doing so. How dare you deny a child's sexuality? That is a human rights violation! Martin Luther King didn't gang rape prostitutes in seedy motel rooms and torch cities so you could so callously take these rights in vain!

I don't know how a film that fails the DOST test multiple times counts as something that should be protected by the first amendment. Isn't DOST's entire point to decide where exactly the line between expression and porn is?
