Lily isn't necessarily wrong here, although it's not quite the cause and effect she thinks it is. In current year, it's far more likely for somebody with left-wing politics to snap and start virtue signaling when you were previously enjoying content that had approximately
fuck all to do with politics.
For instance, I'm watching somebody's channel because I think their commentary on some pop culture is funny, or I'm appreciating a book analysis. I don't want to be blindsided by a sudden cant into an atheist screed, or bashing Republicans out of the blue, or watching a cute VLOG about a road trip to buy a man-sized plush spider suddenly ending with "By the way JK Rowling is a transphobe and I'm donating this month's Patreon proceeds to a seedy organization if you don't like that your money is being sent to them fuck you and stop watching my content." (No, that's not suspiciously specific.)
People are watching content creators for specific content. I don't particularly mind if people branch out and talk about different things on their channel, but it's a big Fuck You if you're, say, a channel that mostly focuses on YA book reviews and then suddenly you post a video about your hot takes on <insert social issue here>, or a Disney food vlogger suddenly starts screaming about right-wing bigots, or any content creator at all just posts "Hey, if you support <politician>, you're a racist bigot and you don't deserve to watch my videos." Guess what, idiot? Unless you're running a channel about politics, that's not why people are watching you and you don't get to start whining when they let you know it.
