Not every (clinically) depressed person wants to commit suicide, or tries the "cry for help" attempt. Self preservation is a very strong instinct, and living is a very hard habit to kick.

Him not wanting to kill himself isn't the "gotcha" of him faking it. That isn't to say he isn't playing it up for pity and the bux that come with it, but you don't need to be suicidal to be strongly mentally ill.

This is why I hate people that use "the increase in food bank usage" as proof of increased poverty in the USA/UK.
