Nope Ireland put Self ID into law all by itself. Even the UK hasn't brought self ID in. In fact in the last few months UK Tranny groups have been out maneuvered, the government have pushed back hard on the idea that children can be 'born in the wrong body'. They've clamped down on gender reassignment treatment, and dodgy pharmacies prescribing hormones.
Incidentally the conservative minister that's done all this, and put British Troons back in their box is Liz Truss, who's despised by TERF's for other reasons.

Watching the drama unfold on UK troon twitter - where one of the main arguments in favour of giving kids hormones is that denying them somehow affects availability of abortions because of reasons - it strikes me that a recurring theme is always using unrelated issues to argue their own cause.
Women can have penises because intersex people exist. People can change sex because clownfish exist. Men in bras should have their identity respected because gay rights exists.
Other causes stand up on their own merits and the arguments made supporting them are actually about the subject at hand. But not this, because it's bullshit.

That's a very good question! The proposal for a gender recognition law was something that started out normal, public consultation, diagnosis of gender dysphoria needed, etc etc, then less than a month before it was brought to vote, all the medical gatekeeping was dropped and it was changed to a self id law. Why, and at whose behest, is a mystery. Nobody noticed at the time because it was passed while the country was having a referendum on gay marriage, which was the issue grabbing all the headlines.
I will note that several US pharmaceutical giants are major sources of inward investment in Ireland. Whether that's a coincidence or not, I don't know.

The explanation I heard is that Ireland tried to jump the gun on self-ID before the EU forces it down every member country's throat. This, among other reasons, is why, unlike the libs in my personal bubble, I'm sympathetic to Brexit. The EU should never have been anything more than an economic trade association.

Zoe Ashley Watts, 34, was formerly a member of the Bracebridge Lowfields Community Police Team working in the south of Lincoln before moving to a different role, and has in total worked for the Lincolnshire police force for nine years. She also served as an equalities officer for the police trade union UNISON.
Police confirmed on Wednesday (7 October) that she was arrested on one charge of importing prohibited weapons with intent to evade a prohibition or restriction, and one count of making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose, according to The Lincolnite.
Watts has a YouTube channel titled “Survival Mistakes”, where she makes videos on topics including “bushcraft, survivalism, emergency prepping and emergency planning”.
The trans survivalist has made videos on how to make fire starters out of tampons, an axe out of an ice skate, and a stove out of an Ikea cutlery holder.
In one video, she uses a weapon she calls the “Lacerating Glass Bigot Twatter (LGBT)” to smash watermelons with the faces of Boris Johnson, Katie Hopkins and Donald Trump stuck on them.

Watts appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court Wednesday and will remain in police custody until a further hearing on Friday (9 October).
