I have also often assumed Drex is making it up and Nick just believes because he wants to believe there's someone as wild and crazy out there as Drex purports to be + they're long time friends. However, the his lack of online presence and evasiveness about his actual job lends weight to him telling the truth. Just omitting the part where he gets paid both because it'd make him look bad to be a male whore and because most of the legal loopholes rely on money being exchanged for things that aren't sex that coincidentally happen to lead into sex purely because the parties want it, definitely not because money.
