Discussion of recent episodes seems to be down on Reddit, for whatever that's worth.
I doubt the audience who are drifting away The Dick Show hate Dax. I do think they are tired of him. When a personality like that forgets to be entertaining they are exhausting and not very fun to be around.
The show used to be defined by scattered rages, with longer arcs provided by common enemies like Maddox and his pratfall revenge schemes.
Lockdown occurred. Dax could no longer rampage across L.A. freely, like a badly behaved dog who has escaped from his owner's front yard. His past caught up with him in a very depressing and unflattering way. A lot of his older peers, who hold-down respectable jobs, and who could go toe to toe with him, stopped calling in. He replaced them with his version of the Lost Boys - a gang of troubled youths and future meth-heads, who made him look like a cult leader who has embraced the Jim Morrison diet, or a burn-out who got held back several grades at school.
The show was already in a rut when Dax latched onto Cuties like it was the floating door at the end of the Titanic. He could have ranted on the topic once and moved on, but when the tide of opinion turned against him, he couldn't let it go. I expect that, with the recent legal developments in Texas, he'll be at it again this Sunday. I won't know unless somebody mentions it here. I stopped listening to The Dick Show a while back. I don't know who Dax's audience is anymore, but I have a suspicion that it's the same people who regard Coach Red Pill as a paragon of masculinity and fatherly advice.
Sean needs to stage an intervention. I don't know what rock bottom will look like in Dax world, but it's probably going to be more than a slime comforter and some shark decals. Perhaps waking up in the naked embrace of Ethan Ralph, to find their recreation of the two girls, one cup video trending on Porn Hub will be the red flag that turns things around.
