Sorry, I didn't realize it was a legal term, I was just trying to sound fancy.

I think it really depends on whether he told his viewers that the money was strictly for college funds and house repairs, or if he just casually suggested that among other things he might put it towards that but there was no guarantee. If it's the former, then yeah he absolutely misled them.
