I've been following him for years and my best guess is that it's from a combination of drinking way too much, being lonely from COVID prevening him from getting out, and missing his Hollywood libshit friends. He was ostracized in 2016 and went full Trump supporter largely out of spite, and his audience grew very right-leaning, full of people who were also either ostracized or otherwise hated all the new woke bullshit at the time.
But, time heals all wounds, and now he wants his old friends back. He said in some throwaway line I wish I had timestamped, on an episode shortly before the Cuties fiasco started, that in Hollywood, the only edgy jokes that are acceptable nowadays are ones at the expense of children. Like, you can tell all the child rape jokes that you want, but if you dare say "faggot" even just once, your career is over.
Obviously, those who ostracized him don't give a shit about him, and especially don't care about his bizarre-ass takes on Cuties, as if that'd somehow win them back. Now Dick's trying to grovel to Null. Hahahahahaha.
It's also worth pointing out that Dick, a man whose motivation is steeped in drugs and sex, is turning 40 this month, on the 29th. He's turning 40 at a time when California is still locked down tightly, and any plans he ever made to celebrate that have been dashed. He has since mentioned in passing (on TDS) doing some publicly unannounced meetup in the woods somewhere, like a mini Burning Man, with fans of the show, just so he has some kind of party this year.
He needs to quit fucking drinking. He's staring down the bottle and realizing he's reliant on alcohol, he can't drink with randos to feel better about himself due to COVID, he's lost friends left and right due to his retarded obstiance, and he's hitting a big age milestone where he has to get serious about not being a fuckboi anymore.
