Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Social media was filled with Doomers screeching that bodies would be filling the streets and that DeSantis should be tried for murder.
None of the cities torched by BLM rioters had to get the snow plows out earlier than usual, so that narrative can fuck off.

I swear to god, the naked hypocrisy surrounding those riots brings my piss to a boil. Four months of people disregarding social distancing and the muzzles without dropping like flies should've been a wakeup call for our leaders, and yet they continue to insist on more lockdowns "for our own good". Widescale looting and destruction were perfectly kosher, but god forbid people try to make a living (especially the "nonessential" workers) or get proper education.

I'm dreading more lockdowns, that sort of short term panic is going to fuck us all over in the long term economically.

"Property can be replaced, lives cannot" is the motto of 2020.

God i feel for kids growing up during all this shenanigans. Can't wait till all this ends. I dont want future generations living in fear for the rest of their days
On that, i don't think I could agree with you any more. I'd imagine you and i probably disagree on *how* this should be solved, but my take is just now, I am glad I'm an adult and pretty secure with my work to boot. I cannot imagine, for the life of me, not only being a child in all of this, but a parent, too. Growing up in constant fear and anxiety will lead to nothing good and we're planting a time bomb in terms of the mental health of young people and children.

I was recently in the emergency room for a "uncle rhabdo"scare, and all the docs I talked to said they barely have covid bullshit happening.

its over where i live. I personally run 150 covid tests a day and maybe get 1-3 first time positives. And of those maybe 1 is a hospital admission as opposed to asymptomatic screening (preop).

Opening up hasnt affected the numbers at all because viruses burn through a population then stop, theres not gonna be a giant second wave or whatever. We are back to April numbers (ie fuckall)

In LA they were rioting over the Lakers (win?) last night and... burnt a bus? And maybe some cop cars? I think America is truly lost.

At least anti-racism is a noble concept and if people were actually being racist it would be worth fighting over.

It has been two weeks since Florida governor Ron DeSantis lifted all remaining COVID19 restrictions.

Cases and deaths continue to decline.

Social media was filled with Doomers screeching that bodies would be filling the streets and that DeSantis should be tried for murder.

And these Dommers want to fuel the MSM for more fake news about corona-chan. https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/10/are_covid_case_surges_more_fake_news.html https://archive.vn/MOMZK

Are COVID Case Surges More Fake News?

By Brian C. Joondeph, M.D.
COVID cases are on the rise, or so we are told daily by a hysterical media. Newspaper headlines scream panic as this recent USAToday article proclaimed, “COVID-19 cases rising in 39 states – 9 months into the pandemic: We are overwhelmed.”
It’s the American people that are overwhelmed. Nine months into masks and lockdowns, with a presidential election just weeks away, facing a daily barrage of doom and gloom from the media. Are cases really on the rise or are these simply positive tests?
The above article, one of many warns, “A startling nine states setting ominous, seven-day records for infections.” 39 states reported more cases in the last week than they had in the week before.

What exactly is a “case”? The USAToday article doesn’t say. Neither do other articles or cable news doctors and other “experts.” Is a “case” simply a positive test?

The CDC answers this question with a “case definition.” A case is not just a positive test. Instead what is needed is, “Presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence.” Notice the AND, meaning not simply a positive test.

Yet what the media trumpets as “surging cases” are only positive tests. There is no discussion of whether or not any of the individuals with positive tests are showing symptoms or are actually sick with the Chinese flu. Or if they are contagious and needing to be quarantined.

As an analogy, suppose we routinely checked peoples’ blood sugar or blood pressure and called any single high reading as diabetes or hypertension. Imagine testing everyone’s blood sugar after lunch, when it naturally rises, and calling anyone with a reading over 140 a diabetic. We would have a surge in diabetes, yet the vast majority of these individuals are not actually diabetic.

The COVID PCR test is quite sensitive, amplifying any viral particles found in the nose, whether dead or alive, repeatedly until the test is positive. Most of these positive “cases” are neither contagious or symptomatic, as even the New York Times acknowledged.

The more people we test, the more positive tests will result. Nancy Pelosi called for “testing, testing, testing” and that is exactly what we now have. The U.S. is currently performing over a million tests per day, with just under 5 percent coming back positive.

The economic damage can and is being repaired. Will take a while but we can get there.

Societal damage is much worse and will take a very long time to fix, if ever. Credibility and trust in government/judiciary/law enforcement has been lost. If it wasn't a "we" versus "they" society before, sure is one now.

Having said that, people still live and work together. They just try to do so without reference to "them".

I'm amazed how mental health has been ignored since all this started. I don't want kids to become paranoid schizophrenics/germophobes after this is over.

Completely agree. I think something that does not help though is the vacuous moron celebrities on social media though, harping on about how "productive" they've been. Lots of people are flat out hating this, but don't want to slaughter any sacred cows by admitting to that, i think?

What has startled me is this: I know a couple of people who work in community mental health in England, and they've said demand has fallen in their areas too. They are able to provide better care now than they were this time last year. Often, they've got enough time to be making weekly appointments with new patients just to keep in touch until they can be put in touch with a psych, which is good for people who're experiencing a crisis, but even then the wait is down to 4 weeks or so.

We don't, but the powers that be sure as hell do. The masses are easier to control and manipulate when they're scared, this year has been shining proof of that. And what better way to get a compliant, unquestioning populace than to fearmonger the shit out of them when they can barely tell you what 2 +2 equals.

Michigan, USA

The Michigan Supreme Court has denied Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D)'s request for a temporary delay in the voiding of her emergency powers, and ruled that her authority and all orders issued thereby are over, effective today. Governor Whitmer had asked for a transition period of 21 to 28 days.

Besides mask mandates, restrictions on gatherings and business capacity, etc., Governor Whitmer also unilaterally ordered such things as extensions in eligibility for unemployment. The articles don't seem to say, and I don't know, if this will retroactively void her orders back to April 30, such as the extended unemployment benefits, and the fines imposed on businesses for noncompliance, or if the benefits and fines will stand as they were before the recent ruling. It looks to me like the latter case, but IANAL.

Too bad for Michigan the health fascists in the public health department took over where Whitler left off.
I was in Michigan for a short time recently. So many places were still closed up. I don’t know how much of it was due to the economy because of the shutdowns, or the shutdowns themselves. As far as shutdowns go, in places like airports, it would make more sense to open more restaurants for dining in so that people wouldn’t crowd just a few places (since it’s easier to spread things in close quarters). I really feel bad for the people in Michigan having to go through this. Their shutdown level still looks like it was for that short time nationwide in March and April. That said, if they re-elect Whitmer, then I won’t feel as much sympathy because it should be very clear right now of how much a control freak she is.

8-9 months later, people are finally taking notice.

Poor mental health can greatly affect your physical health. And not just through substance abuse. Depression, stress, anxiety, etc. can affect your appetite, your sleep, your hygiene, your immune system.

The longer this goes on, the more deaths there will be in the long run. From suicides, to deaths due to surgeries and other medical procedures being cancelled or postponed because of hospitals bracing for surges of COVID patients that never came, to the overall health and wellbeing of the public being thrown to the wayside because governments thought they knew what was best.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but what the hell is going with California right now? Why are so many people leaving, especially those in LA? I say this because one of my favorite youtubers (Geography Now) has put out a video on it and I got sucked into the "Leaving California" rabbithole.

The state is self-destructing itself so the lefty hoards are forced to flee and subsequently infect red states of course. Like a fucking Cordyceps fungus exploding its spores to find new hosts.

There's no end in sight for the lockdowns. Like... I have no idea what it will even take to get us out of this since they've changed the system three times. My office (highly tech based) has confirmed that they're not going to be back in house until January, at the earliest, and my friend's office has already said they won't go back before March. Per social media, more than half my coworkers are living out of state right now. What's the point of paying rent to live here if you don't have too? (I mean, I like the beach, but the popular beaches have been trashed lately because there's nothing else to do, and the hikers are complaining that the forest fires have the hiking trails closed. And all the restaurants are still outdoor only, and the gyms are still closed.)
