General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Doesn't take long to figure that out. You have entire youtube channels dedicated to "discussing" vtubers.

In other news, I've noticed a few anime avatar acquaintances decided to commission expensive "vtuber models". These acquaintances are all men and think they're gonna "make it" on youtube/twitch because they have a vtuber avatar. All of them look like they come from the uncanny valley. They animate poorly and add nothing to the content.

Is trying to cash in the vtuber fad the new twitch streaming?
Alright, time for autistic observations based on no real evidence.

I have something that I like to call the "I got interested" point in a trend. It's usually the point where I get interested in some new/emerging market when it's close to being completely saturated and getting critical because millions of other people thought the same and you can't get the easy money/fame anymore.

I got interested in crypto? The market was close to already being established, everybody was mining and it crashed later in the year.

I got interested in lets plays? Everybody and their dog became one and then daddy youtube killed the genre.

I got interested in vtubers? That was a couple of months ago, now there's Holo EN, and every normie wants to be a vtuber. Now we wait for the market to crash.
I dont think the market will crash for the "pros" like hololive and nijisanji and even the dumb little twitch vtuber clique, but all these people who see a fad and just want to jump on it like Pokimane will get burnt out on it soon enough. As for all those channels that just report on vtubers, I can see them keeping the avatar until they stop making vtuber videos though I agree they're all really fucking ugly and cheap looking.

My comment was addressed more about "average Joe" getting into stuff. By the time when the market hits the "I got interested" point there are several somewhat established members that usually are the reason for kickstarting the whole thing by getting coverage.

When the let's play trend started, there already was Pewdiepie, Markiplier, and later Jacksepticeye, they are still there and mostly make the same content (except Pewdiepie).

If we apply this to vtubers, the established players, in this case, are Hololive, Nijisanji, and some smaller organizations. The ignition point of the market was those videos that crossed over, like FBK's Scatman, the Nigga compilation, and other random clips.
When the market crashes they won't go away and still will get a decent amount (lower than peak, but still liveable) of viewers. What the crash is going to affect the most are the people that are thinking of starting right now.
I don't forsee that there will be above average success rate for vtubers that are starting now compared to regular youtube channels.

Imo, the vtuber trend should be viewed as lets players: part 2.

Except "those" people... aren't really vtubers. In any case, they're v-grifters.

They're going to jump the shark real bad trying to muscle into a scene they have no business being in.

Nobody that's into the good shit is going to bother checking them out, their already established (casual) audiences are gonna fuck off, leaving them only with the retards that were already giving them their money.

I don't think the vtuber market is going to crash, per se. All of the bandwagoners will try to jump in, hit a wall, then end up having to fold because they can't actually bring anything to the table.

As for the viewership, there always will be a contingent of people who lose interest and leave, but streaming as a whole has proven to be sustainable and I don't see why vtubers would be any different.

Towa will have an advantage in Among Us due to being experienced with Werewolf/Mafia, as shown in this video.

Thinking about becoming a vtuber myself guys, my avatar's name is Manko Ochinchin, she has pink hair, a generic anime girl face, massive fat fucking titties, and she likes hentai and yuri and wet anime pussy. I'm gonna make fucking bank, I'll just use a TTS and say I'm paranoid about my voice doxxing me, right??

I'm gonna be fucking tee tee, whatever that means.

One of the YouTube vtuber enthusiasts made a community post about Artemis. I doubt I'm alone but I have a feeling she's getting too much hype going and isn't gonna be able to deliver entertainment worthy of it, especially from the get-go. Someone in a comment said Gura should collab with her but I kinda doubt that will ever happen.

Artemis has been teasing for weeks and doesn't even debut till the 24th. She has someone named Domo on Twitter simping for her and people are trying to figure out who she is for some reason. I kinda wonder if she and Domo could be the same person.
I've seen a couple of artists shilling her shit on Twitter as well, in addition to the fact that I think she showed up in Gura's chat during one of her streams once? Someone would have to find the distinct moment, because it was a fairly recent stream, but I do remember Gura giving her a shoutout when she showed up.

I still think Artemis is just trying to coast off Gura's appeal regardless of Gura being seemingly cool with her, though. I mean, I didn't see her announcements until AFTER the Hololive EN crew made their premieres and had time for feedback.

Cheetahman put it best:
It's almost entirely shilling to ride off of Gura's popularity. No other reason why to do this instead of actually putting something out.
Wasn't the first time, won't be the last.

I think there will be a crash. I've mentioned it before in this thread. It grew really big, really fast, and that's the sign of a fad. I think eventually the novelty will wear off and even the top streamers will be pulling numbers at most one-fifth of what they are now, and the lower-tier ones will quit completely. I think IBS is an appropriate thing to look at for comparison.

Expect a lot of Vtubers with fish thematic just to get that sweet shark simp money, even when Hololive already has 2 fishes in their roster

By that metric the idol industry should have died a long time ago but is still there, raking dosh out of the incels

There will be a crash but like any other weeb and geek activity it will never be totally abandoned.

I hope tomorrow's Among Us stream goes well. Polka hosted public matches and got stream-simped very hard, which was annoying enough when she was a crewmate but when she finally got to be an imposter, the number of puppydogs following her and coddling her in meetings made playing normally impossible. Private collabs seem like the way to go.

There was one guy that did not knew who she was and when polka was the imposter she was flexing her subscribers in the discussion part and the guy was all "aja you are still the imposter" that part was glorious

Still im glad that Polka decide to take the bullet to dispel the "security issues" that Cover (and Coco) believed that Among us had

Pokimane is doing it for some fucking reason so obviously. According to her she's just going to do it when she is doing "off cam" streams meaning can't give enough fucks to cake up her face.

The security issues have been a thing of the past for quite a while; the Holostars were informed of them being bullshit first and did a full branch collab, and later on they would host a bunch of games with viewers. Granted, the Holostars are much more chill about it and most of their fans are guys, so you had people seriously playing the game except whenever they wanted to address the streamer. The most that happened in Roberu's stream is them taking the game seriously but they would call him "son" during discussions.

It's also where he fucked up royally and made the "cafeteria in my soul" thing.

As far as the Vtuber trend, I actually wanted to try it but only because I'd rather have something instead of nothing but game footage when streaming, along with just liking the idea of playing a character (which is a big draw for a lot of them to enter the business to begin with). Problem is that jumping into any hobby after it's been popular for a while automatically makes you look like you're clout chasing, which in some cases like Pokimane, they 100% are. I know a lot of other people in that space want to try out virtual avatars and think it's an easy switch but don't put much thought behind it; despite the model fuckups that happen sometimes with Hololive, their riggers are some of the best in the business and nobody can really compete with them. One of the guys they tap into a lot actually wrote a book on how to do it.

Minecraft is blowing back up for some reason. Some Steve-in-Smash-unrelated reason. Did Moona singlehandedly revive Minecraft at HL??
Steven in Smash could have just brought it back to the public consciousness too. There were a couple recent big updates too.
