I agree that he probably thought he could do it (setting aside the substantive question of whether one should defend lolicon / pedos from the mantle of civil libertarianism / religion). He discovered, in real time, that he could not. That is surely clear to him now in hindsight, or it will become clear eventually. Not all public outrage is equal. There is a qualitative difference between being hated as the face of male chauvinism and being hated as the face of pedo apologism. Dax conflated the two at his own peril.

It’s just such a jaw-dropping miscalculation from someone like him. Like Null said, this is indeed a Chernobyl event. The fallout won’t stop. Already Dax’s relationship with his fans has mutated permanently. Dax will be radioactive for as long as his internet broadcasting career continues, and his show will increasingly become a source of misery for him.
