People have speculated that it is about voter suppression. I agree that that is definitely part of the intent, but I think there is another motivation.

Influencing elected leaders to think that their base is actually further left than they think it is on whatever is at hand. Think about it, normally these polls also ask people's general opinion on a multitude of subjects (guns, welfare, LGBT issues). The vast majority of your politicians are state and local officials. These lower level politicians do not usually have the same access to internal polling data as their national level counterparts especially if they are not in a "competitive" state. So here comes a "totally trustworthy" media poll telling you that 65% of your constituents support [insert liberal policy], so you better move your position or be voted out in the next election!

It is essentially a big "bandwagoning" campaign.

So, it isn't just voter suppression, it is to effect policy maker decisions as well.

That's just the same shit Dorsey's been slinging for years. He's not apologizing for blocking, he's saying blocking without giving you a blurb why it's blocked was bad. He has zero intention to stop the blocking, he's going to promise to Do Better and add another annoying pop-up when he does it.

Rubin asked the wrong question. He should have asked if they shadow ban any controversial political speech. Dorsey wants to weasel out of that by talking about conspiracy theories, false info, and non-authoritative sources. He'll claim he doesn't shadowban the people who are clearly getting shadow banned because of their "political beliefs", but because their speech falls into one of those problem areas.

But the real story now is not that but the coordinated censorship of the fourth largest newspaper in the country (to own the fascists). As noted upthread, "lol NYpost" would have been enough for me to disregard it. Not anymore.

IANAL but IIRC editing the tweet itself is a major step toward publisherville and away from platformville.

Jesus christ I don't know how anyone could back up what they are doing right now. Just get banned for even talking about it. We go through 4 years of bullshit story after bullshit story about Trump from pissgate to muller and it all bounces off even when it is shouted from the mountain tops. But poor little Joe Biden can't handle even the smallest of controversy without literally the entirety of the mainstream media and every big tech player running massive and immediate interference. Let it come to light that there was a cover up and that Epstien was involved, holy fuck, man.

As far as I can tell, nobody tried pulling publisher shit while being a platform before. The closest you got was pivoting 100% towards publisher status by newspapers removing comment sections. Even lawyers got some learning to do.

It's a slimy way of saying the same thing. They won't get rid of the police, they just won't have a budget, so they can't actually operate anymore, but they didn't actually get rid of them!
