For a while now, I've had this feeling that I recognized Marine's voice from somewhere other than her confirmed previous vtuber characters. It wasn't until a friend pointed out to me that the singer of IOSYS "Overdrive" from 2004 sounds familiar that I made the connection. This might be a schizo post, and all of the evidence I have is circumstantial, but I think I can make a compelling case that Marine is/was a member of the influential touhou circle "IOSYS", under the name "miko"
It is common knowledge that Marine is a huge touhou fan. She streamed some of the touhou games, and when
FBK and Marine were surprised with an appearance of Zun on some japanese podcast, Marine audibly creamed her pants and nearly had a nervous breakdown. It is also known that "Ahoy!" was arranged and produced by IOSYS, a group best known for a variety of touhou themed songs and animations (Cirno's perfect math class is probably the most famous). While it is somewhat hard to find information about IOSYS's current activities because of the language barrier, they seem to have slowed down their content production significantly since 2012. They went from having dozens of releases from 2011-2015 to only having about 6 since 2017. If Marine was not one of their members from 'the glory days', what would compel them to come out of a relative state of inactivity to do a song with her?
The IOSYS song I'd like to bring forth as evidence for my claim is the aforementioned "
Overdrive". The singer's voice sounds very similar to Marine. This is most apparent in the speaking portions of the song, occurring at :
49,
1:43, and
2:25. While it is possible that this is simply a matter of all asian women sounding the same, there is one other aspect of this song that makes this idea compelling. At
1:32, a male voice asks the singer of the song "ojou-chan,
pantsu, naniiro?". This roughly translates to "Girl, what color are your panties?" to which the singer responds "
Pantsu haitemasen", which translates to "I'm not wearing any." This exact line is echoed word for word in Marine's "Ahoy" at
3:15, when Marine poses the same question to the crew who give the same response.
All of this might be coincidental, circumstantial, or just Marine making a reference to a song that she really likes, and was sung by someone with a very, very similar voice to herself, but I don't really care.
