I gave up on a guy I was friends with since highschool because it was overwhelming. He would bounce between psych wards and getting arrested. I definitely think that the changed landscape of YouTube is a big contributing factor to why Jim will ultimately call it quits. He made a big joke of having to delete every video on his channel a while back but I think you'd be naive to say that this didn't affect his motivation, especially so with the fact that keeping his content on the site has been an uphill battle for a while now. I'm not sure there's really any room for people like Jim on YouTube anymore.

I think the ultimate reason for his retirement is that he knows that he has relevant political views, and the charisma and platform to talk about them, but it would all require abandoning his anonymity, and while he enjoys making fun of politics, he isn't like Sargon who wants to battle politicians upfront and have all of his shitposts used to slander his personal reputation. YouTube is clearly something he does as a hobby, and he doesn't think it is important enough to threaten his livelihood. Quite simply, dude already has a life, and we only saw a tip of the iceberg

I do find it massively interesting that his COVIDPocalypse videos stopped around the time that Trump and the GOP started downplaying its seriousness. Jim tries to stay as politically centrist as possible, but he does admittedly lean right-wing, so perhaps seeing the issues and politicians he supports both clash was enough to neutralize his political fervor, and possibly even make him rethink his support of them

His politics isn't really a option at this point, like JF says Trump isn't even much of a rightwinger compared to people like Ron Paul.
