Okay, I know you're all sick of me talking about The Oblongs but here's 3 reasons why I hate that show:
1) The bullies are never punished
I'm sorry but writing a show about bullies being "Karma Houdinis" is a very bad idea! I hated that crap even in good shows like Hey Arnold where bullies could do whatever the fuck they can and not get punished for it. Hell even Doreamon does this with Big G. but to be fair, at least Big G. can be nice sometimes. The two bullies in the show (Jared and Blaine, I think) should've been punished in some way. Maybe Milo's brothers could've beat them up or something but no, nothing bad ever happens to these assholes. I guess 13 episodes was too much!
2) It shows that rich people can get away with anything because they're rich!
Like I said about the bullies. What gives rich people the right to get away with being bad? I shows that there is no hope in society if you are poor. I'm sorry but I think Angus Oblong is an atheist and doesn't believe in God. There was even a South Park episode where Cartman get $1,000,000 from his dead grandma and opens up a theme park only to keep it to himself, this upsets Kyle and he ends up with a hemorrhoid that nearly kills him and he loses his faith with God. But at least all end well when Cartman loses his amusement park and his $1,000,000 causing Kyle to restore his faith in God. Too bad this shitty show doesn't do any of this? I mean come on! That is fucking cheap and mean spirited!
3) It's a poor man's Simpsons
This show is a bad ripoff of The Simpsons. Some people said Family Guy did this too but this show is trying to be a more "mean spirited" version of Fox's longest running cartoon. Now don't get me wrong, there are other shows like Bob's Burgers that use the "family" trope as well but this show is a piss poor excuse of being in the same vain as The Simpsons. I'm sorry but The Simpsons was a hit! Not just a hit, but the staple of 90s animation alongside Ren & Stimpy. This show however is hardly ever brought up anymore, thank God. Now the reason why this show was liked was because Will Farrell was in it and to be fair, he voices the only good character in the show; Bob Oblong. Yes, I actually liked him. He was the only good thing about this terrible show!
Final thoughts
Why did people defend this show? It wasn't that great to began with and it deserved its cancellation after only 13 episodes. Shows like Invader Zim, Mission Hill, and Clone High are actually good examples of short lived show, not this pile of dreck! I prey to God this show never comes back and with talks about it, I'm pretty worried there's a chance it might be revived. At least Family Guy, Futurama, and Beavis and Butthead had reasons for their revivals; they were successful on both DVD and TV. I doubt a lot of people have bought the complete series on DVD. Maybe only about 5,000 each year, but that's it! I just don't understand why people say this was one of the best Adult Swim shows because it wasn't. In fact a lot of AS' early shows were terrible and forgettable like Baby Blues, Stroker & Hoop, and Assy MGee. The only good shows from 2001-2003 were Home Movies, Mission Hill (I don't mind it much but still), Sealab 2021, and of course Aqua Teen Hunger Force (which is sadly in it's final season). On a side note, at least AS is finally getting its shit together and are making good shows like Rick & Morty, Mike Tyson's Mysteries, and The Jack and Triumph Show.
