Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

France got itself a 15-day lockdown. Fucking hell.
I don't get it, is it that the politicians/"experts" don't understand how these short term actions can have devastating consequences in the long term, or is that they simply don't give a shit about the economic damage? The attitude of shutting everything down when cases (not even deaths) spike a bit is going to fuck the whole decade up.

Sitrep on the Melbourne situation. Non essential retail stores have reopened and they've allowed restaurants and pubs to open but with a max capacity of 20 people. You are still only allowed to go 25km from your home, you are still not allowed to leave Melbourne, you are still required to wear a mask wherever you go. And yet people are celebrating as they've "come out of lockdown" and like this is a momentous occasion.

My sister recently came over to visit us because she lives within the 25km zone and I remember clearly when her and my dad carried some items to her car parked 20 metres down the street they both put on masks. The level of Stockholm syndrome people have developed is insane.
Doesn't Melbourne have a bunch of spider-leg railways out to the more rural areas? What are all those people doing?

Got news for you.

THEY DO NOT CARE. THEY DO NOT CARE ONE BIT. THEY CARE ONLY FOR POWER. THEIR PAYCHECKS COME ON TIME AND THEY DON'T CARE IF EVERYONE ELSE FUCKING STARVES TO DEATH. GODDAMN THESE PEOPLE ALL TO HELL, ETERNALLY.

Got more news for you.

ANYONE who puts ANY faith in what "they" say is just wasting their time. Their credibility is zero. They deserve no respect. They simply cannot be believed any more. They have snapped the bonds of trust between government and people, possibly for good. "They" are making enemies at a very likely record pace. ONLY one in government I trust is President Trump. I know he's doing his best, ad putting America and Americans first. The governor of the state I live in? Newsom? Fuck him. The supervisors of the county I live in? Fuck them, they've all drunk the Koolaid. The mayor of the small city I live in? He can go eat me after the way his city has recently done us.

More and more, people are realizing it's best to live to the greatest extent possible without reference to as much government bullshit as possible. They don't care about the people at all. Just sources of revenue. Just numbers on their charts and graphs. Just dirt under their feet. That's okay because we figured those cocksuckers out long ago.

As previously stated, the societal damage nationally from the ChiCom Flu will dwarf the economic damage, and may never totally recover, even if the economic damage is fairly quickly fixed.

The next time a national calamity happens, and it always does, "they" shouldn't count on much voluntary cooperation from us.

Am not advocating violence, but desperate people sometimes take desperate measures. Can see one or more McVeighs in certain state capitals. The ones who commit the acts will be lionized as heroes. And the FBI, which has "distinguished" itself by doing nothing with Hunter Biden's laptop, will be out there going for glory hunting the perpetrators down, all while the people laugh at the politicized Keystone Kops this once-respected organization has become.

Someone said soldiers from WWI and WWII would probably have regretted winning the war. Don't agree with that, but sure as hell neither the Nazis nor the Soviets ever deliberately kept anyone from earning a living. No, that only happens in "democracies" like the USA/UK/Australia. I consider keeping people who have jobs from earning a living a crime against humanity. Economic terrorism carried out under color of authority.

Here's a Reason article on restaurants in Illinois defying Fat-Ass Pritzker just so they can stay in business.

I disagree, fundamentally. The entire premise of an authoritarian regime is to prevent the "wrong" people from earning a living. Every authoritarian regime has survived on its ability to shun and exclude the undesirable, the opposition, the threat to its existence, from a normal integration with society. Whether it's excommunication by the church, or expatriation to wilderness by an empire, or exclusions from the tribe, or expulsion by the state, or whatever else you might name, the fundamental underpinning of the oppressive state is the denial of normal living to those who diverge from the expected and demanded norms of the society that is imposed by the dictatorship.

The nazis prevented anyone who opposed them from earning a living. The soviets imposed an entire system of government that prevented the earning of a living to anyone who disagreed with the fundamental premise of the socialist ideal (though Stalin was notably lax in this regard, which is something of an irony for the period and the conflict between the soviet union and nazi germany, for those that care to investigate). This idea that some previous iteration of "fuck you I'm the fucking uberstate" was somehow better than the current attempt is, frankly, offensive and retarded. It's the same faggots trying the same shit with a different coat of paint. They deserve a short, sharp drop of reality, with a sudden stop of understanding.

There's a reason hemp is so heavily regulated.

Hey, lockdown number 1 didn't work so lets try it again. When you realize that most politicians are just scumbags and care more about their image than anything the train of thought you're having will make a lot more sense. Their entire lives rely on their image. The problem is, the idea that everyone wants a lockdown to make us feel this false sense of safety from the virus isn't true. Most people realize the danger, say well it's not that bad, and go on with their lives. Big tech and the media are behind the narrative that lockdowns are the only way to go, convincing NPCs and the politicians they bitch about on twitter that it's the only way to do it.

Does anybody else get "Rabid queer" vibes from a lot of this thread?

Taking the piss out of mask wearers, it makes me think back to the AIDS epidemic.

These were the bull queers who just hated condoms and being told not to fuck eachother, with a partner count measured by the tonne. These gays are the biggest argument for executing homosexuals, imo, but outside of Iran this is rare.

I get the exact same vibe from them.
People are rating you dumb but I do kind of understand where you're coming from when I abstract it out far enough. I have watched "The Gift" after all, which is equal parts horrifying for the irresponsible behavior displayed ("standard fuck party") with regards to a disease that will literally kill you 100% of the time (unless your name is Magic Johnson, apparently), and the editing.

Plenty of people in that film express sentiments that sound similar like:
-Just get it so you can't get it again.
-Fuck condoms I'm fucking tired of dealing with the inconvenience.

There's more but it gets into weird fetish shit I don't feel like revisiting and doesn't parallel at all with COVID.

So the underlying "god I just don't care anymore" attitude is similar, but it seems more like a manifestation of general dislike humans acquire for things that prevent them from living their "best life", so to speak.

In the case of AIDS, a bunch of people who lived their "best life" by destroying their ass or the asses of others on a nightly basis got tired of latex preventing maximum enjoyment of getting salami up the poopchute or being the salami up the poopchute nightly.

In the case of COVID, a bunch of people are tired of having to breathe their own stale possibly off-smelling air through a piece of cloth (that collects bacteria like star wars podcaster in the funkopop aisle) whenever they go outside their home, which is impacting their enjoyment of life in general, a superset of "best life".

Personally I think it is possible for different manifestations of this creeping dislike of serious inconveniences to be evaluated on a more case by case basis as not all things seriously being inconvenienced are created equal, nor are the dangers of failing to take the suggested actions.

With HIV/AIDS, best case scenario you subject yourself to a lifetime of drug treatment, you become a carrier of a deadly virus for life, and you become a sexual leper to anyone with their head screwed on right. You do not gain "immunity" in any meaningful sense, either. By contrast the scope of impacted activities are whether or not you let people rawdog you, rawdog other people, or share needles with junkies.

With COVID, you subject yourself to a disease that does go away, with a low mortality rate that can have serious symptoms in rare cases (though these rates of bad are pretty tightly correlated with age and poor health), and for the duration of the disease's contagious period you can pass it to other people. Also you gain some immunity, but the scope of this immunity is unclear. By contrast, you can in theory get COVID anywhere, from anyone, or anything you touch that other people have touched, much like flu or the common cold, meaning the scope of impacted activities is the majority of your life, as currently legislated.

🍎🤷‍♀️🍊

"Get it while you're young and it's relatively benign, because it will be worse when you're older" was received wisdom for several diseases, for many decades. The possibility of having a vaccine soon-ish makes the comparison imperfect, but it's still reasonable to want to get COVID at a specific time because you think the health, social, or economic costs of getting it later would be worse.* It's not comparable to bugchasers trying to get an incurable disease that requires a lifetime of pharmaceuticals to treat. They're not undertaking an informed gamble with their health, they're just being fatalistic thrillseeking homos.

* E.g., if I can catch it and recover in time for Christmas, I can visit Grandma and be confident I won't kill her.

You make a good point. I see where you are coming from.

True, under the conditions you described, the Nazis and Soviets did keep people from earning a living due to their beliefs/actions, real or imagined. But I don't believe they arbitrarily just said one day you can't work at your restaurant job, your barber job, your service job.

Or are we seeing certain governors showing their authoritarian bent by keeping THEIR "wrong" people from working? Far as I am concerned every governor who put their entire state under house arrest was no better than the Nazis or Soviets. There was clearly no need for that one-size-fits-all house arrest. Believe this was deliberate and malicious on their part - just a fucking power trip.

Don't know if that's the answer you wanted or would like, but I do see where you are coming from. 👍

Cristiano Ronaldo says ‘PCR IS BULL****’ after third positive coronavirus test

Cristiano Ronaldo has labelled his coronavirus test as “bull****” after being ruled out of JuventusChampions League match against Barcelona.
The Portuguese tested positive on 13 October while on international duty and has since been in quarantine at his home in Turin.
Ronaldo took a PCR test on Tuesday in a late bid to play at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday night, but despite continuing to be asymptomatic, the test came back positive.

Ronaldo said he was “feeling good and healthy” and that the “PCR IS BULL****”, questioning the efficiency of the swab tests used to test Covid-19.

I heard a couple political types (Biden, I think?) say the words "DARK WINTER" and I did a bit of poking arond the old inter-tubes.

Don't look into Project Dark Winter without an ample supply of tinfoil... and every other survival preparedness item you can think of. Bioterrorism all up in tha house, yo.
Operation Dark Winter was the code name for a senior-level bio-terrorist attack simulation conducted from June 22–23, 2001. It was designed to carry out a mock version of a covert and widespread smallpox attack on the United States.
>Smallpox
>Covid
I'm feeling something in my bones but I cannot articulate it correctly, perhaps a quick trip to the store for more tinfoil will clear my mind...

I'm positive my parents are secretly coping at this point. They keep saying over and over that the COVID madness is because of the election, and every time I point how how the rest of the planet has gone just as insane and show other crazy bullshit like the great reset scheme I basically get waved off and am told not to believe everything I hear. These are the same parents that since I was born constantly fearmongered me while growing up about The End Times (TM) and how it's incredibly likely to happen during my lifetime.

As a paradoxical consequence, their attitudes now scare me more now than they did before.

Yes a simple RNA virus with a 99.8-99.6% survival rate, ~98% chance of full recovery and temporary infection window is the same as a Retrovirus with an almost certain eventual mortality that permanently infects your body.

Also I dont recall 100% of the population being forced to undertake special measures to prevent the spread of AIDS.
I'm extremely proud of the Covid tan I've developed from being outside so much.
We're into late October but its still perfect weather to lay out by the pool. Soak up all that Vitamin D I can to hold me over until spring.
(or at least a warm day in December lol)
