Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Thinking on it, that's my guess.

They feel enough normies have cast their vote and the harm of preaching gun control up to this point is minimal, but the far left hasn't been motivated and this is a hail mary pass to get them to get out of their soy stupor and hold their nose for old Joe and the cop.

Will feel more confident about my theory if he also openly states he'll pack the supreme court today or tomorrow, another independent poison pill the radical left is foaming at the mouth for.

I'm going to break with consensus and say its because gun control is a "reactive issue". Gun grabbers tend to bring it up when the bodies of a mass shooting are still warm, especially if they arn't a single issue candidate. Since there haven't really been any crowds to shoot into thanks to the Virus and the most high-profile shooting in the last few months being caught on camera and argued by even mainstream conservatives as self defense, they don't really have the call to (confiscate) arms necessary to try a push. There are enough unrelated issues on everyone's mind and the people really into gun control already tend to hate Trump, so there just wasn't a reason to make it an issue.

They didn't have a convenient rallying cry until Sandy Hook happened, when Feinstein and Obama both started pushing a new Assault Weapons Ban. A ban that, to their credit, the Republican Senate shot down hard.

Fair, but they still had cases like Virginia Tech, which happened in 2007. Sure, it isn’t as effective as Sandy Hook, but there are other times they could have used a shooting to bolster more gun laws. Virginia Tech wasn’t that old of a shooting by the time Obama got into office.

I know I've heard leftists, even though they vehemently hate Trump, secretly want Biden to lose just so they can go, "I told you so!" to the DNC -- like they did in 2016. They want the Democratic Party to move much further left and believe that Democrats won't inspire voters/turnout unless they go hard left. Biden/Harris winning won't implement everything they want, and they're not "pure" enough for them.

America isn't a leftist country though, and I hope they go hard left so they scare more voters to go right.

Yeah even people who want Biden to win want the Biden/Harris administration gone in 2024 as Cenk had his "big brained" plan of getting someone to primary them when they go for reelection

Between COVID lockdowns and insurrections and riots in major cities, weapon sales have been at historic highs. Calling for sweeping weapons bans won't even fly in the Democrat base after the year we've had. This is a shockingly tone deaf move, and that's after accounting for Joe Biden saying it.
