The implication would be that Biden would be against a status quo neocon Republican incumbent. Trump is a president/candidate who the establishment (Democrats) want gone by all means. If it were Romney or Jeb, it would likely be a smooth election as the Dems would toe the line as they know they have the best shot at power the next time around.
But I'm implying here that they Dems are meticulously planning power grabs, rather than wanting it 24/7/365/eternity.
