America always fetishizes rebels and uses them for the political advancement of elites. If you asked a Leftist about the similarities, they'd say "well the Capitol clearly represents the republicans! They're the rich and in control of big oil!", while the heroes of the story are "clearly young socialists fighting against capitalism". It doesn't have to make sense, the hypocrisy is irrelevant. What matters is that "the freedom fighter" is supported, "the empire" is opposed, "the terrorist" is defeated, and "the republic" is upheld. All just empty words.
And really, this is standard human behavior. Your self image as a good, intelligent, logical person is probably not true. Not because you're an awful, stupid, crazy person; but because the moral ideal is just not factual in the way we imagine it to be. There are habits which are socially approved and practically proadaptive, but ultimately we're all very ignorant of what we "ought to do" (moral action) and "should do" (practical action). But in despite of that constant ignorance, we have to make choices anyway and our brains are very good at going backwards to justify those choices. So you'd have to be pretty depressed to live life thinking you're a bad person; which means that mentally healthy immoral people have very positive self images of themselves.
