It's not the top, but it's up there. All the agricultural areas of California usually swing red. Because farmers want to be left the fuck alone, and they resent government regulation. It's always been that way.Since political parties are all the rage these days, it's worth noting Bakersfield is one of the most conservative (if not the most conservative) city in California.
Doesn't mean much, but if we assume that the owners of BCC and BakAnime come from in or around Bakersfield, it explains why they still invite Vic despite the woke accusations.
Unfortunately, the ag areas of California are boring. They also swing red, without affecting Cali turning blue, because fewer people are out there, and it becomes part of the whole urban vs rural political dynamic.
It's a weird place to hold an anime con, TBH, but maybe they got a good deal on the venue. I worked at a convention out in Lancaster in the 90s and early 2000s, so it's not completely unheard of to do it in places like that. They'll never get the traffic of Anime Expo and Fanime though.
