I generally don't give two shits about politics but if Trump had handled Covid-19 with tact instead of dismissal this would have easily been a landslide election in his favor. I don't think the later half of your statement is correct because the RNC had a plan of putting up milquetoast "socially and fiscally conservatives" for years and back in 2016 it was like pulling teeth to get the RNC (the actual official body) to put orange man as their frontrunner. They refused to do it until the 11th hour.
