We're almost at the point now where this win was pyrrhic.

If Trump just won clean, the Dems would have four more years of their rallying cry.

So ... You know ... It appears to be statistically impossible.

To me, their victory is just symbolic at this point, rather than reality. I expect that this week, more states will be taken from Biden to a point where the media can’t cover it up anymore. If AZ and GA are being taken out, more should follow.

I'm gonna put my neck on the line and make a political prediction. now, this could just me being high on a fucking sweep of good news, but I am noticing a few things.

Things ain't ever gonna be the way they were before.

The Ohio Legislature comes from a swing state who has no dog in this race. They handily went to Trump, no questions are raised about their validity. Why? Why would a republican legislature stick its neck out? The reason I see as most likely is... they liked winning. 4 years of a new republican party had been brewing, 4 years that Republicans saw continuing success, over performing in each election cycle. Sure, Trump himself is a bit of a jackass... but his policies have proven immensely successful.

So why stick their neck out?

Because they -want- to.

That seems a bit reductionist or redundant, but it shows something that hasn't been seen in -any- Republican body since Reagan. Initiative. A REPUBLICAN party apparatus in a swing STATE did something risky ON ITS OWN ACCORD, with NOTHING forcing it to.

Think about that. Really think about it.

The GOP is in a position of ideological dominance, or the potential to do so. If they win, the GOP finds itself with no internal ideological rivalries or divisions. Trumpism, that soft nationalism mixed in with a healthy dose of "listening to your voters and carrying shit out best you can" populism wins.

Remember how Reganism carried the Reps for 30 years ideologically? Landed them several solid presidents post-Regan?

That's where the GOP is right now. The real Rubicon that comes about oh so rarely and is seen only every few decades. That's why they're taking the dice roll and sticking their heads out, they win, they win bigly.

They'd also be able to throw the Democrats into utter chaos if they won, the Dems needed this victory to unify the party, that's where the real calls for "unity" from Biden are coming from while the loons in the party gather their show trial lists accountability lists.

They lose again here the Dems could fracture almost irrepably certainly enough that there'd be no obvious way out for them as the special interests within attempt to build and hold fiefdoms within the party, if not it would get very ugly.

The Dems are stuck in a Tea Party writ large situation, only instead of cannibalising and incorporating them as the GOP did, they let them colonize and set up their own fifedoms.
