Culture Lashana Lynch deleted all her social media to cope with the backlash against being the first Black female 007 - Maybe it's not because it's she black and or a woman, maybe it's because Sean Connery just fucking died and people are pissed that they immediately decided to shill out a reboot.

Lashana Lynch will play the first Black female 007 in the James Bond movie "No Time to Die," Harper's Bazaar confirmed in a new profile of the actress.

While the confirmation is new, news of Lynch's role leaked last year, leading to a backlash from people online who weren't ready for a Black woman as a secret agent.

"For a week, she deleted her social-media apps, meditated and saw no one but family, while comforting herself with the knowledge that the aggressive comments were ultimately not personal," Yrsa Daley-Ward wrote of Lynch.

"I am one Black woman -- if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse," Lynch said. "I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I'm a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary."

Lynch in "No Time to Die." United Artists
According to the Harper's Bazaar story, Lynch's character, Nomi, takes over the 007 spy code name when James Bond (Daniel Craig) disappears following the events of "Spectre."

Daley-Ward wrote that Lynch worked closely with the "No Time to Die" co-screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the creator of "Fleabag") to have Nomi be a "fresh female perspective" in the male-focused franchise.

Lynch also said there was another goal in having a role like this in such an anticipated movie.

"I didn't want to waste an opportunity when it came to what Nomi might represent," she said. "I searched for at least one moment in the script where Black audience members would nod their heads, tutting at the reality but glad to see their real life represented. In every project I am part of, no matter the budget or genre, the Black experience that I'm presenting needs to be 100 percent authentic."

"No Time To Die" is set to be in theaters on April 2.

The new Bond movie is so bad that the only way to control the narrative is to pull a Rose Tico.

Either way, this has been known for a year and the vast majority of people are being reasonable (she's 007 after Bond fucked off, not Bond himself). So this backlash seems overinflated/manufactured.

They're worried about the new Bond film and so am I. Especially as they haven't just streamed it and keep putting the release date back.

The last Bond film for an actor is always the worst. It's just they didnt have enough sense to realize that should be Craig's last outing. Youd think him complaining about how much he hated it would be a sign...

Edit: From Compton with Love
Dr. Ho

I'd agree with the exception of Dalton in License to Kill. Was better than The Living Daylights in every way.

It's a bit weird thematically, if the producers are trying to be woke. James Bond is the embodiment of British imperialism and colonialism, he goes around the world shagging the local women, murdering the men and taking all their shit for queen and country. He kind of has to be a posh white bloke for the same reason Lt. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly has to be a posh white bloke. Making him a black woman from Hammersmith sends the message that all races, sexes and classes are now equally complicit in colonialism. Which could be an interesting idea (like in the Obama presidency people were commenting "now east Africans can be happy that the bombs are being sent by someone who looks like them!", there's scope for commentary and plot points there), but it's the complete opposite of woke politics. Skyfall did that better, where they had Silva pointing out how he thinks Bond and M have been the bad guys and have too much power and they abuse it. That made him an interesting villain and made the story much better, and Skyfall was just an excellent film.

Part of the issue is that she's not real attractive though, not just that she's black, cast a black hottie and have her in a bunch if skimpy outfits and you'd see a little less negativity and there was in fact talk of giving Halle Berry her own spinoff movie when she was a Bond girl.
I said this last year and I will say it now, why not cast HOT women for this shit? It seems they always go for average/ugly looking ones when trying to pander to the diversity crowd.

Because if you're that far down the rabbit hole you probably also subscribe to shit like beauty privilege or afrocentrism that says blacks aren't ugly its just western standards that don't recognize their beauty etc

Edit

So casting a beautiful black woman is just, well not quite but whatever, as triggering as a white male being cast

If you want to put your tinfoil hat on it's also part of a pattern of demoralising and reprogramming of western society. See also the marketing material that features mixed race couples, always a black male with white female etc

Because female action heroes are not actually anything new, look at Lara Croft: Tomb Raider or the 2000s era Charlie's Angels movies for example, but back in the day a female action hero was still expected to be sexy and that's not woke enough.

You could very easily retool this idea to not be so bad, this time the "Bond Girl" is just as much a badass as Bond is, ok, cool, but have her be as sexy as Bond girls typically are.

This is 100% a form of viral marketing for a film that is facing an uphill battle in terms of pop culture relevancy and will probably resort to streaming (where it will die on the vine). "There was an intolerant online backlash against this appropriately woke film/actor" is a strategy for getting people to talk about a movie nobody cares about before release.

This film is going to bomb. This is preemptive excuse-making for its failure. Ghostbusters 2016 was just a trial run for this newest approach to hand-waving criticism.

This endless, stubborn refusal to read and understand the audience reminds me so much of Coupon: The Movie.

I'm not going to look it up, but I remember an interview with her where they were talking about the writing process and how she thought it would be an awesome idea for 007 to talk about her period, really empowering.

That tells you everything about what a trash heap this fucking movie is going to be.
If this is in the movie into the trash it goes.
