General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Came back into my reccs last night, but this was the video that made me start watching Hololive after I got frustrated with all the Kizuna Ai drama and thought I was done with Vtubers.

The #1 comment is still one of my favorites: “I have no idea who this dog girl is, or why she’s in my recommendations, but I’m proud of her.” Which may be the best summary of Korone there can be.

something I didn’t pick up on till I just rewatched it a moment ago - while you obviously notice her “minna“/“everyone” tic if you watch her, it didn’t click till just now how she also uses it when she does something good by herself- “everyone, WE did it.“ It’s really understated, but when everyone talks about how Korone is such a good friend, and so caring, it’s clear that it’s so deep in her that it’s even in the language she uses. She shares everything. I hadn’t really thought about it before.

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I enjoy hearing people's opinions on the subject of the "gap" between the characters and the people behind them.

My personal opinion is that they're two very different things. Vtubers, to me, are actresses playing characters with a lot of improvisation. Most streamers, now that I think about it, are characters to some extent. But vtubers specially so, since they don't even make their identities public to their fanbases, and usually don't talk much about their personal lives. And also the whole "I'm actually a rabbit from Pekoland/a shrine maiden/a dog", of course.

But I've seen people get genuinely mad at the idea that these are characters. "What do you mean, Korone isn't a pure virginal shy anime girl in real life!? Fuck you, hater!". If this girl here really is the VA for Korone, then yeah, she's not really that shy. I can only imagine the shitstorm that would ensue if people were to find that, hypothetically, the VA for Pekora has a boyfriend, or that the VA for Miko sleeps around. The harvest for us kiwis would be plentiful.

There's obviously a lot of overlapping between the characters and the people behind them, sure, but I still maintain that, specially in the case of Hololive, they are very distinct.

What's your take on this subject? Again, if this has been discussed before, just say so and I'll search for it ITT.

It’s been discussed. Fairly recently too. The topic of 中の人 comes up every so often and opinions tend to be all over the spectrum, but I’ve definitely noticed a lot of sperging and dogpiling about it on other fora, frequently out of concern that discussing a VA’s identity endangers their job. At least here we’ve been able to have a genuine discussion about it.

Gonna go off-topic here, but that version of online Tetris feels way more laid back than the versions that I have played (Jstris, TOP). In the ones that I played you get your screen filled fast if you don't put in some "major league" performance.

Also, Mori is appearing on the Trash Taste podcast, premiere begins in 55 min.

Pls no, I watch chuubas to get away from irl politics and social bullshit, thats why I dropped Art*mis as soon as I found out they were a troon and based their char around that crap.
It would be fun to make shitting on China a staple tho

Interesting, it looks to me like they filmed with her in-studio and edited in her model on top of a static overlay on her half of the table. I typically find these anituber types insufferable, but so far it’s been going well. Pretty cool insights from the Reaper.
I was also skeptical how this was gonna turn out because anitubers are fucking faggots, but this has been surprisingly fun so far.

It varies from person to person. Ame and Ina barely touch their characters and come across as just people with avatars, while Pekora seems like an impossible character to be real.

And I see plenty of talking about personal lives, just not on the level of "I was talking to this specific person who is not a part of hololive today." Gura shares stories about when she was younger on a fairly regular basis, Calli talks about work, Miko has addressed her medical issues without giving a specific diagnosis, etc. No one throws around powerwords or confirms previous personas, but those are the only real limits I've seen.

Well, seeing as the topic is actually somewhat related to the current discussion, I just came across this video and realized exactly what IronMouse’s situation is.

Mouse's situation is so fucked up tbh that it's one of the reasons I started following her and other vtubers instead of just staying on CB. She did that collab with Melody and Silver for ACNH and I thought her voice was kinda grating but enjoyed her absurdist sense of humor. I didn't plan to check her out though until someone explained why her voice was so high pitched due to her lungs being fucked up and explained her medical situation.

I refuse to simp for vtubers or any streamers in general and don't throw my shekels toward them but I did make a point to donate to the immunodeficiency charity stream that Zentreya did to support IronMouse because I know from experience with family just how much an immune disorder can fuck with you. I can't imagine being in her position where you're an attractive, talented young person and just confined to rot away in your home or risk dying a horrible death just because a little kid sneezes within 6 feet of you. She is 30 years old iirc and has her own daughter but because her disease has become so severe she has no other quality of life outside of that and her streaming. And when she talks about shit like her mom having to bath her etc it just kinda sets in how often I take for granted that I can at least wash my own ass without having to live with my parents, I can go outside without risking death, and I can eat actual solid food that tastes good rather than relying on sterile protein shakes and IV supplements to survive.

Apparently the tokusatsu vchuba unit is not a dream, Havoc Hornet is apparently part of a unit with other Robots Vchubas that are Valefor, Zwei Kanie, him and Garou Nebula i cant wait to see transformations jokes everywhere

The bigger issue isn't them themselves, they're annoying fuckfaces but the interview may go well. The issue is their retard fanbases who are reportedly already flooding old stream archives on YT with "lmao came here from Trash Taste!! XDDD" comments or what have you.

My concern on the whole is that since EN has already had...more issues than they should have had with their fanbases already at this point in their very-young careers, will these misinformed, socially-bankrupt fuckheads that are anituber fans make it more of a mess or not?

and my greater concern is that these people will leave the HoloEN gateway and start stinking up HoloJP streams, embarrassing all overseas fans in the process.

Honestly, her "polite suggestion" sounds patronizing.

Surprisingly people here managed to treat vtubers better than others did. I tend to see people on the farm treating vtubers both as the characters, AND the people behind them, all while knowing when to separate or treat the two as the same.

If anything, those flood of annoying people has already started. I mean, just look at how annoying Gura's shrimps often are
The bigger problem is how these anitubers will spin these to gain an influence on the vtubers behind the scene. If you don't know, these people belong on the same agency, and might have some agenda to influence the decision-making and the market

Someone in this thread really needs to start practicing more subtlety with their public conduct.

That being said, now this is some ADVANCED simping right here.

Oh I know the cringe has been around since EN's debut. We all knew that was coming, but things like this just pile it on and exacerbate it. I didn't think about them using Vtubers for clout though, that may be the case. I kinda already though along those lines, since obviously they're "into" them now because they're hip n' happenin', and wanna get on the gravy train before it's chugging along too fast for them to catch up.

The issue is that retards like the Trash Taste hosts are just gonna milk it until it runs out and then leave the dusky husk behind. They aren't in it for the hobby, just to milk it for clout. Just like their viewers now won't actually be into Vtubers as a hobby, they're just in it for the fad and because their greasy-haired podcast overlords told them it was cool.

The worst thing is mooks on social telling me to "just deal with it"

and one guy even said "lol the JP girls have done much worse for the brand/community in the past so how is this a big deal??"

literally what?

Most version of tetris you are going to see played by vchubas are dumbed down versions from the competitive, don't expect any vtuber (except maybe suisei) playing shit like the Grandmasters, weird that i have no memory of her playing The Tetris Effect that game is half LSD trip half tetris

For context the only version that is allowed in competitive is the NES version

Superchats are disabled during karaoke streams, translating the lyrics doesnt make you the owner the song, eat a dick you cunt
