I hate having age of consent arguments on the internet but if you think lowering it to 14 is extreme you should look up European ages of consent. Lowering it to 16 wouldn't even be a change in many states in the US due to how we currently handle age of consent (18 federally, but only applies to porn and crossing state lines to have sex. States get to decide the age of consent when just 2 people living next to eachother have sex, and about half of them have it at 16 and half those remaining have it at 17.)

Anything below 16 is definitely too low IMO. Just because a girl is physically able to have kids doesn't mean she is mature or developed enough to navigate a sexual relationship with anyone outside of her age range. Even an 18 year old with a 14 year old is sketchy IMO due to the differences in maturity, position in life, ect, but if you really wanted to allow that we can just have a 4 year age window for people under the AOC (several states in the US have such a system, as do countries in the EU IIRC). Also in the case of marrying women off at a young age, again laws can be specific to allow kids below the AOC to marry with the consent of the parents (this is also something the united states does).

I don't think Romeo + Juliet laws exist because of "power imbalances" or "emotional development." I think they exist because sex with people one's own age is relatively common (under age 30) and teenage sex occurs so regularly that it would unjust to prosecute all people.

I also want to add that Arizona's Romeo + Juliet loophole states:

If a minor is 15, 16, or 17, the defendant can argue that they believed the minor was not a minor. They may even argue that the minor represented themselves as older and that a reasonable person would believe them. This is a viable defense in Arizona court.

So effectively the real age of consent is 15 in this state.
When you get over the taboo and look at the data, you realize that basically no one thinks AOC should be 16 or 18.

As I said, AOC isn't just about sex. It effects how we view children vs adults (14-18 are adults > child) which is why so many times DAs try to charge high schoolers as adults.
It effects the advice we give to pre-teens and teens.

You have to be honest and consistent if you want to convince your audience. I have two problems with your response.

One:

Do you want the age of consent to be set at 10 or do you want it to be set at an individual level? You can't argue for both!

If you say it ought to be up to the individual, then there is no need for age of consent because imposing one means it is mandatory and not up to the individual!

Having an age of consent means it is up to a number (you said age is a number) and not up to the individual.

So do you want an age of consent or no age of consent?

I am not asking speculative questions. You said:

C. So this means that you think that 10 year olds can hit puberty and are sexually mature?

Not speculation at all because arguments A and B imply that you think 10 year olds can be sexually mature and can be impregnated!

If you say yes, I will say that you are consistent in thinking that as long as the young adult is sexually mature, you wouldn't care she is 10 or younger, you'd impregnate her.

If you say no, then you are inconsistent. Because you think sexual maturity and hitting puberty (which also means being able to bear children) are signs that you can have sex with the young female adult. If that 10 year old can't breed then why call for the age of consent to be lowered to 10?

I am trying to help you here. I am in no way trolling you. If you want your arguments to sway other people, you must at least be consistent! What I have done is just quoting you almost verbatim and clarifying the implications of your statements.

I thought age of consent is the short form of age of consent to have sex. Of course it is about sex. It is not about consenting to eat your vegetables or help your parents with your chores. It is consenting to impregnate or be impregnated!
